Rudi Gernreich's most famous (and sensational) creation--the topless swimsuit. Not many were sold and the two women who tried to wear them on the beach were arrested. :woot:

and rightfully so...that bathing suit, though I appreciate it's artistic design, basically defies the whole reason for wearing a swimsuit: to cover up your goods.

Correct me if I'm wrong but, I guess it would be suitable for some European beaches...aren't they allowed to sunbathe topless? If that's so, then I guess the women who were arrested were U.S. citizens or some other country that doesn't allow people to expose themselves. Unless you go to a nude beach over here in the U.S., you'll be arrested for public indecency. :censored:

I wouldn't want to see anyone wearing those at the beaches here; I don't care how hot they are!

More 60's-ness! Whheee... just what I needed today.
To heck with the lack of a top thing- it's part of fashion history.
:bounce:

It's legal to go topless in NYC from what I understand

May be it wasnt legal to do it in 1960-s. Sorry that I didnt mention it before... :flower:

For the sake of tan lines, a bikini bottom is more appealing in my opinion.

Uhhh.....

Maybe for guys....

I'm scared if it's really legal.

well from what I understood, the reasoning behind making it legal going topless for woman was, if men can do it, why can't women....
Can anyone confirm this? I am not 100% positive

If it's true I hope word doesn't get out... I see so many people who would totally do it.. and just shouldn't. :P

The intention was to make a statement. :flower: Keep the time period in mind here.

I don't care if it's 1962 or 2004, North Americans are so uptight when it comes to t*ts.

When In europe I always go topless at the beach as most people do. When I first went to the beach in North America the first thing I did when I got to the beach was take off my top.

Women gasped, kids giggled and men stared as if they had never seen breasts before

I caused such a comotion that a woman "told on me" to a life gaurd and he advised me that I wasn't allowed to go topless. I responded with "Is this not a beach?"

North Americans are prudes. They act like they'll have a heart attack if they see nipple.

It is to cover up things but I agree with CelineChic that its uptight here in US thing though is if people are uptight on the beach go to the nude beaches here. wish it was more liberal like Europe and be allowed on every beach...I think maybe that since most public beaches have little kids then they don't want to raise questions of "mommy what are those?" :P

...sometimes I want to sunbathe and I dislike tanlines because I wear lots of tops that have interesting necklines....I found a "secret beach" so no need to worry about odd nudist and of complaining families.

Any parent who is too embarassed to tell their kids the name of the organ they used to get milk from shouldn't be a parent.

t*ts, knockers, melons, hooters or whatever one may call them...in the end they're just breasts!

No parent should have a hard time explaining what breasts are. Plus kids can see breasts through shirts so they will still ask.

I cant stand when parents make kids think that breasts are "dirty" or talking about them is "perverse"

Some people are f*cked up. In my opinion. :innocent:

 I could never think that you have problems getting topless in America... Since there is nothing wrong with your body, why cant you take a sunbathe? Thats stupidness...

And kids can see that their moms have breasts too...

Sorry purple.. ;)
And I agree about the prudes. There's nothing wrong with children knowing about breasts..what IS wrong, if you ask me, is children overdosing on them with p*rn movies and the like.

I once visited my friend in University and stayed at her apartment in Connecticuit (sp?)

Anyway her neighbor had a little girl about 4 years old and they came over to say hi around tea time so we had tea and snack with her and her daughter.

At one point inthe conversation we were talking about quality of shirts and I said the word NIPPLE 2 times.

After the second time I said it she said "Please don't use words like that around my child"

What did she expect me to call them??? "Those things on my boobies"

Some people are so bloody juvenile.

It's a different culture...we're not "prudes," we're just different. I don't call people who go topless a bunch of "scandalous tramps." I accept that it's a part of culture and I do not pass judgement.

Maybe you should broaden your perspectives and acknowledge other cultures before stepping on some toes.
