the thing against synthetics though is that there is still this stigma surrounding it
many people who shop luxury i always still hear them consider synthetics as a lower quality fabric, something to only replicate expensive fabrics
and to be produced cheaply.
that may be part of its history
it doesn't mean anything now
synthetics have a lot of advantages too , that natural fabrics don't have

but both sides of the spectrum are great
especially a mixing of the two
creating a hybrid with each one's advantages

Barneys has commissioned some really beautiful things for Barneys Green ... I tried on a 3.1 Philip Lim Green dress this past weekend that reminded me of Project Alabama. It was lovely, and if it hadn't been so short it would've come home with me

What I would like to see is a trend toward smaller bags. Bags have gotten almost grotesquely big in my opinion ... I was reading something the other day where a woman took her day bag to a party & knocked over a champagne tray. I know I'm not the only one with neck & back issues that are easily made worse by a huge bag ...

I really like how Balenciaga have been structuring fabric those big stiff pleats.

Shoes had to get technical to replace handbags..I'm wondering how that is going to continue.

I'm kind of hoping that it will stop seeming so revivalist.

however there are multiple threads on brands who are going organic...etc...

so.......it remains to be seen who will win out...
if either will...maybe they will both co-exist on different levels...
that is probably what i think is most likely to happen...

luxury customers don't care as much about environmental issues...
so luxury brands can use all the chemicals they want...

whereas the average consumer is more environmentally concerned and will probably go for the eco-friendly stuff...

i don't think it's an ecological divide so much as an economic one...

The effects of the recession will be interesting to see especially since there is a backlash against cheap chic. Perhaps the average consumer really will start to consume less.

I see 3 colour palettes for spring 09.
The 1st is soft, serene and calm and washed looking, soft greens, apricots, lilacs etc... these work beautifully on washed cottons and linens etc..
The 2nd story is bold, loud, exaggerated colours derived from nature used on prints particularly and quite chaotic...
the 3rd one is a neutral story in soft dove greys, stones, creams, off whites etc...
Thats my version in a nutshell!!

totally forgot to post my own personal opinion

I can see this ethnic look getting bigger and being more spiritual with lighter fabrics etc. rich and vibrant colours,

I can see romantic dull tone colours, kinda like a fantasy world

I can see the sports wear trend getting bigger, maybe more tradtional amercian type.. like that seen in ysl, I dunno that with the 90's sportwear trend atm i can see it being big, maybe in lighter cottons etc. for the summer. More classic styles mixed with newer ones.

I can also see new body shapes and ergonomics, with styles being cut with an almost linear precision.

I dont know maybe im totally wrong but its just what im getting atm

I think fashion could use a jolt of intentional beauty instead of the more undone and random look that's really been a dominant force.

i keep seeing a lot of fabrics with mixed fibres, ie silk with cotton, polyamide with cotton
etc...
Do you think its going to be another dress season? I do, and a jacket season as well?

Personally, I think we're due for a return to separates. Jackets, skirts, pants, shorts, tops, maybe even vests. I think the focus will start to shift from dresses back to full outfits.

With the fall shows things seemed to focus on a whole look, rather than just one piece.

or do you mean separates which are to be worn together...

gius, I think it could be taken either way. Obviously with separates you have a lot of room to customize and build certain pieces into your wardrobe, but in the case of runway, separates can also influence entire outfits.

I hope that makes sense.

agree the separates, I read somewhere I can't remember where that we were moving torwards separates, that the dress won't be as important in our wardrobe as it has been for last seasons

is only normal to move towards anything but the by now overkilled dress and the soft/girly trends

ecological fibers/textiles will co-exist with fresh clever light innovative synthetics

the idea is not thisversusthat, but freedom from boring cliches and creative co-existance

the inevitable fresh caricature of formality will be interesting for the older customer but not much use to the young market which keeps enjoying the much applauded 'give me something my mom wont be able to wear' rebellion

Lena i agree with you about formality for the older customer, I believe it will transpose in the guise of androgeny...
The younger market will take their inspiration from the likes of Agyness Deyn which allows creativy in dressing.

I absolutely agree, I think dresses are "over," and not a moment too soon (I am all about separates.)
