Trend Predictions for S/S 2011

I'm all for the long skirts, not so for dropped waists. They look shocking on me cos I have a mega bum.

I really like the drop waists, just not me. They really don't work on curvy girls such as myself, but if you have no curves then this trend will look amazing on you! I also second long skirts, it is possible to find one that flatters almost every body shape plus they look so nice.

long skirts are nice

Long skirts: Gross.

Drop waists: Meh. I can stomach the Miu Miu ones.

I can actually see the anti-sex trend merging with the la garconne drop-waist and the longish skirts one. The original trigger of the la garconne/flapper look was a part of a social and a sexual revolution and the girls tried not to hide their sexuality but rather celebrate it in a more mysterious way.. and this is also what i see happening here.

think ab-baring, somewhat cropped or asymmetrical hems (longer in back, shorter in front) will come back - although, i wouldn't be going bare-ab for sure LOL

i'd most likely layer with something tighter, longer underneath

i predict a 70s blowout

Yes 70s! I had a feeling when I saw Mary-Kate Olsen wearing this a couple weeks ago that the 70s will be next.

very odd...
that thing marykate is wearing is completely and totally 80's...not 70's...

but i do think that 70's is going forward...
it's all about Celine...frankly...
and it's not a big secret either...
...

high waisted wide leg pants with silk blouses and skinny belts and high heel clogs...
it doesn't get more 70's than that...
it's like old Chloe when phoebe philo was there actually...

^_^

I think a slightly gothic '20s look might be in.

I've definately seen the natural waistline coming back finally, but not as an abundance, just in say like, one piece in a collection, that sort of thing.

I love the classic high-waisted skirts! I also been seeing velvet clothing coming back . . . as well as other back-then styles for this fall.

Have a look for yourself:

i agree completely with velvet! does anyone else feel like we'll dig even more into the nineties for trends though?

hmm...the Victorian inspired blouse, long straight hair and wooden cross felt 70s to me.

Prints

I think light, colorful prints will determine the story for SS2011, as can be seen in the Resort collections of Erdem, Balenciaga, Kenzo and Proenza Schouler, and in the SS2011 Men's Collection by Dries van Noten. Specifically, a lot of it will be Nature related, a lot of watery prints and effects, blue ombres, splashes and tie-dye, a lot of Kenzo-like florals, but done in a modern, abstract way, oversized, blurred edges, pixelated, etc. some retro geometric prints, fun motifs like Miu Miu or YSL or large abstract crystalline structures. The tailoring and construction will be more relaxed, lots of shorts and blousons.
