Over the last 30 years, @tyrabanks has scaled the peaks of modelling and television, breaking barriers in both worlds. Now, she tells Robert Moran, she has set her sights on winning over Australian taste buds with ice-cream venture, Smize & Dream. ⁠

“I didn’t want to tap-dance forever to make money,” she says. “I wanted to create value and opportunity for others through entrepreneurship, so that’s why I pivoted. That’s why I’ve been in Australia for so long – and people didn’t even know I was here,” she says. ⁠

@TyraBanks, the ’90s supermodel turned TV mogul turned entrepreneur – famous for her trademark “smize has been in Sydney for about 18 months. The reason? The opening of a Smize & Dream ice-cream venture in Darling Harbour, tentatively set for May 11 – Mother’s Day.

For much of that time, she’s flown under the radar. But there have been hints of the supermodel in our midst. In Sydney, she’s even been travelling like a local.

“I have my Opal [public transport] card!” she says excitedly. “Riding the ferry makes me happy … we’ll go to Manly, Circular Quay, Balmain” – she says it like the French fashion line – “and it feels so luxurious.” “I transform so much with make-up, [I’m] very chameleon-like,” she says. “But sometimes it doesn’t work, sometimes people are like, ‘Girl, I know it’s you.’”

They said these modeling streets would be hard. They didn’t lie. But boo, I didn’t just walk them — I smized, strutted, and STORMED them.

Last night at The @dailyfrontrow Fashion Los Angeles Awards, I was crowned with the Fashion Icon Award — handed to me by the one and only trailblazer herself, @iambeverlyjohnson. A woman who shattered ceilings so others, like me, could even dream of touching the sky.

And let me tell you… the road to “icon” isn’t paved in gold — it’s paved in KEEP GOING.
Sleepless nights. Slammed doors. Doubters around every corner.
Some doors weren’t just closed — they were cemented shut. But guess what? I kicked them open with a SMiZE and a strut. And now? I see so many fierce ones RUNNING through. And that… that makes every broken heel and scraped knee worth it.

This moment isn’t just mine.
It’s for every dreamer who’s ever been told “no” but heard “not yet” instead.
It’s for the ones who smize through the storms, and strut through the sacrifices.

This award is magic. Last night was a dream. And baby, the dream has only just begun.

Because don’t forget — TyTy’s officially out of modeling retirement. My covers will Smize. My spreads will slay.
