My subscription copy arrived, I received the b/w cover as I hoped, because that newsstand one looks terrible to me.
The choice of Miley Cyrus, I'm neither here nor there, it wouldn't be a draw for me, but I like that it's unexpected.
I've become so thoroughly sick of studio editorials that ANY story that's set outside has the potential to be a welcome sight. Even if the styling or the modelling isn't strong in any image, there's always the location to look at. So an issue that's full of travel editorials is something I will try to get into, when I sit down with the issue at a later stage. None of the images really grab me, though, at first sight.
I just yearn to see something 'impossible' in the magazine. People talk about the loss of elitism in fashion - it's good that the doors have been flung open to fresh blood, but what's missing is the sight of fashion that makes you yearn for something bigger and better than yourself. Something more than what you know today. That's a journey - the journey the mind takes when it sees an editorial that tells a story, and you don't have to spend much to make that happen. All you need is the desire to bring people something more than the mundane. Or the vision to see the magic in the mundane.
