US Spring sales?

I'm trying to hold off on buying some key expensive spring pieces because I know sales start early in the US- sometime in May? am I right?

Sales are actually starting to begin...I know that Neiman Marcus has already started culling some spring pieces and put them in the sale racks...

I was surprised to see no currently active "sales" thread in this forum. Please correct me if I'm wrong though!

I would love to know when US stores will be starting their sales as I know they are often a couple of months ahead of Europe. Particularly as the UK is feeling the pangs of an downturn economic and the US economy is in recession, I was hoping and wondering if there will be any amazing bargains to be bagged. As for Paris, where the Euro is riding at a historic high and the law narrowly prescribes sales dates, the sales are predicted to commence lates as ever on wednesday the 25th of June!

Saks will start May1st. 40% off.
It's extremely early this year. Retailers are desperate. I think that stores like NM has given up......

^ My American friends reported back that the general atmosphere in the US was one of impending financial gloom when they visited Florida earlier this year so I am not surprised at the early start to the sales. In terms of a slowing economy and stalling retail sales the UK isn't far behind however I really doubt that stores like Harvey Nicks and Selfridges would start discounting before the traditional June sale dates. I've got a key piece still on my shopping list and am not sure whether or not to hold out til sales time....

I'm visiting the city around May 24th. Is it likely that all sales will be over then? Slightly ashamed to say that after years of obsessive clothes buying I never considered that sales periods differ by region.

^ Honestly Prima - it's really hard to predict! You know I was in Las Vegas in September a couple of years ago and they still had summer sales stuff on all the racks in the local NM and Saks despite the fact discounting started in May... It sounds like you may still be in with a chance of scoring some good stuff at great prices from the major department stores. Personally, I'll be in Scottsdale, Arizona late July and I feel almost certain that there will be neither good sales pieces nor new stuff in the stores... I'd love to get my hands on more of The Row discounted or not while I'm in the US.

Barney's In Store NYC, May 5th One day sale. Though the flier only reads men's, children, and home items.

May's a good time to shop -- stores will have big sales for Memorial Day, which is the last weekend in May. A lot of sample sales in LA and NYC, but I think for the dirt-cheap spring stuff, that'll be clearance time July-ish, when leftover spring and summer stuff will be discounted.

yep! The Spring sales have actually begun online. I really only shop online.. a few good comparison sites would be istorez.com & thisnext.com & kaboodle to find latest spring fashion deals.
