US Vogue April 2022 : Bella Hadid by Ethan James Green

Not sure what to say, other than its just boring. There is nothing to it, kind of like her career though she has developed somewhat of a craft at least.

Oh no. This might be one of the worst shots I’ve seen of Bella in fact if anything her fillers and work done is extremely clear here - this natural type doesn’t work for her at all
Having read the interview I want to rescind this and say maybe it’s the tape… Bella seems lovely and also like the last person who should be in a n industry as toxic as fashion but fame is a drug

The editorial is really underwhelming I wish they had just done high fashion glam and let her shine

I like it. It’s beautiful and timeless…
That’s the kind of covers all the Vogue do for supermodels (at this point, bite your tongues people but Bella and Gigi are supermodels)…
It’s chic and well styled and glamorous enough for the subject. Models covers with models telling us about their life are never groundbreaking anyway.

It's fine. I just wish that these model covers from Vogue would be just that... a fashion story with a model. Why does it have to be the Oprah interview version of a cover story? I can't stand this faux deep emotional existentialism.

In the accompanying cover story she finally admits to plastic surgery - i think they needed to get this out of the way before there could be a full feature.

As is usually the case with EJG's imagery, it's all pretty but dull. His images lack the conviction and 'bite' of those he looks up to (Meisel, Avedon and Armstrong). There's just not much personal vision. His images tell me what he likes, sure but they fail to tell me who he is and that's why no matter how superficially pretty the work is, it just never quite 'sticks' in the way that I'm sure he hopes it would. In his defense, whose work does stick with you these days?

Bella looks fine to me. The whole thing is fine. Just fine. On to the next one...

I've been anticipating to see Bella's first solo cover for Vogue USA, and honestly, they did not disappoint to give us a solid one.
She's waiting this moment since 2016. Nice pairing with her sister cover by Ethan (opposite pallette). I like it because it looks very the year 2000 which is the fashion and cultural trend of the year. Those colors reminds me of to the Gisele era wearing jeans.

You just described every photographer of this generation. And maybe every designer of this generation, too.

nice to see olivier theyskens' pieces here
yeah, by far the most positive aspect of this story.

It’s a well-deserved cover even if they could’ve put more effort into the story.. though it seems US Vogue only ever succeeds at like three themes and they’re all a bit corny (Old Hollywood glamour, beach goddess or whatever lol and.. just being kind about a potential third one).

The interview IS very Oprah, it’s a bit depressing.. I know girl’s depressed but how about you cook up some pasta as you talk to this journalist about a nice story when you were happy, some trip you did with the girlfriends, the meaning of life and love haha.. something! anything! cheer up, you’re getting a Vogue cover! the ‘got into Harvard’ of modeling .. it was cool she addressed the nose job and all of these ‘her face is 110% plastic’ claims (which.. isn’t) but not sure I wanted to learn about the anorexia, adderall and adherence to pseudoscience.. now it all feels very  congrats, girl, hope this impacts you positively..

I think it is sad that 25 year old looks like 45 because of all the work she did to her face. Also it is sad that she only admits she got her nose done, because we all know that is not true. Finally, this cover is not that great, it is kinda bland.

I like the idea of a pared-down Bella.
But even when US Vogue gets it right, they get it wrong...she looks soooo depressed.
Who would be invited to buy this?
The world right now is challenging enough, can't they give us something a bit uplifting?

Bella seems like a very sweet girl, but I find it very disturbing how much we have glamorized being "broken." The more issues you have, the more gold stars you get. Everyone airs their problems, saying how they want to put a face to this struggle, or that struggle, or show other's that you can be successful even with this debilitating diagnosis! Etc. etc. etc. It's sad to see her so swallowed up by darkness. And to be in a world that encourages that...what's her incentive to pull herself out of it, when there's so much opportunity for her to have a platform to talk about it. Doesn't that give everyone a reason to perpetuate their misery? So they can always have something to talk about?

And isn't that just as much narcissism as anything else? "I, ME, ME, ME, I want to be THE face of clinical depression! I want to be the face of lupus! I want to be the face of whatever...."

It's disturbing, tbh.
