US Vogue May 2007 World's Next Top Models by Steven Meisel

the "Hit Girls" article was very clear, "Gisele Bundchen is the latest model with a household name, who will be the next?" and that's true, Gemma is not a Supermodel, models on the top of the high-fashion bussiness are called TOP-Models, and that's what the Vogue cover line says.

not sure why it's so complicated for some people to distinguish "Supermodel" from "Top Model"

I really dislike it when people attribute jealousy to criticism. Just because someone doesn't like a model doesn't mean they're jealous.
Thanks, TGA. It bugs me too. We're all allowed to express our opinion and no one here is allowed to censor anybody when it comes to our views on fashion. Besides, people here mainly just don't find Chanel Iman attractive--but we're not saying anything terrible. eg. ("We hate her. She should die."-- Something that was said before on the Etc's of the Modelling World and was later deleted by a mod, I think.)

well, if an average person doesn't know Gemma Ward, how could one knows the difference b/w top model and supermodel?
now i know what you meant...but the article IS very confusing and not very well written.

popular and healthy-looking models? they are already with us, Adriana Lima, Alessandra Ambrosio, Selita Banks ...... days ago in E! entertainmnet they were covering a photoshoot with Ale Ambrosio and another one with Heidi Klum where she was in a pool water.

I mean popular as in commercial and high fashion, much closer to the form of the true supermodels.

Like TGA said, criticism does not always equal jealously. You can just not understand a certain models appeal, as many do not with Chanel.

I agree but, as has been stated, it's one thing to not get a model's appeal. I don't get MANY models' appeal. There's a whole thread dedicated to it on the forum. But there seems to be a lot of acerbic comments about her looks, career, personality, etc to the point where it seems a bit odd. I've been in her thread since she first started getting press last year, and there've been so many heated comments. In this thread itself, she caught a lot of heat for things she can't control. You'd think she was Satan himself. I've never seen a model whose detractors go out of their way to bash her, many times. I just think it's odd is all.

a sex symbol for who? heterosexual men are not really into Kate Moss.:blink:

Oh, I beg to differ. I'm not even a fan of Ms. Moss, but she's always been considered sexually beautiful. Straight men like Johnny Depp would disagree with you (much to my chagrin :ninja: :innocent:  ).

I thought it meant that really, the search is one for the next supermodels. I don't think he was calling anyone a supermodel as of yet. But his argument was that the industry is in need of a supermodel, since they disappeared in the 1990s, and these young girls are the contenders since the industry is opening itself up more to the possibility of reviving the supermodel phenomenon, at least in some sense. It excited me, personally! :woot:

Someone in this thread said she looked like a monkey earlier. I think it was deleted. That's being flagrant, IMO, and it also has racial undertones.

i'm confused again. the cover says the next TOP MODELS, not the next SUPER MODELS.so based on the previous member's explaination, they were arguing that the girls will be TOP MODELS which means it's even too early to call them condenders for SUPER MODELS yet. no?

Yes, the cover says next "top" models. However, as has been stated in the thread, several models on the cover are already top models. I'm referring to the actual article, which makes several references to the return of SUPERmodels. :flower:

^ you're right, Sepia is one of those who think Supermodel and Top Model is the same thing. The Vogue coverline says "The Next Top Models"

Hmm, no I don't think Sepia is "one of those who thinks Supermodel and Top Model are the same things" at all. I mean wasn't she making an argument based on the article, which brings up the idea of supermodels and not just top models? Yes, the cover says Top Models, and she acknowledged that, but it seems that the article delves into other things such as the possible return of the supermodel, and that's what she's talking about right now. Given her posts I'd say she has a pretty good understanding of the difference between the two terms.

I was reading the article of Hit Girls that Cypress scanned but it stopped after page 222. Can someone scan the rest of it?

"sexually beautiful"? wow, that's a new term to me, how is that? it seems interesting.
