^Hmm, I agree, not enough male fashion designers!
The only men that come to mind at the moment are the Evan + Dean duo, but I think they are just womenswear...

best designs so far that I have seen in BC
Seem to be a lot more care in some of details
and the fabrics are perfect..

So, so far I've checked all of the East Side culture crawl website and Fashion High website
are there other big sites that collect local designers of all kinds altogether?
ie. graphic design, other arts

I noticed for the Fashion High one, a lot of the 'designers' make the products themselves. No out-sourcing or manufacturing by another company... a lot made by just the one person

Anyway Would be interested in finding more talents in the city
I know Emily Carr Arts Institute has a bunch of grad shows coming up...
I'm curious where they'll all disperse to once they've ended school
If it's possible for them to stay and work in Vancouver

Dana Lee designs menswear, but she is now based in New York, but she graduated from Kwantlen. Her brand A-Z is sold at Jonathan and Olivia I believe. Refinery 29 Article on A-Z

Also, there is a great local label I discovered called egg. Their website only shows women's, but they have great menswear pieces sold at Global Atomic in Yaletown. http://www.eggclothing.com/

Uppercut did some great things, but I'm not sure if they're around anymore.

Downtown H&M at Pacific Centre is opening May 22 at Noon.

I heard that the people behind Richard Kidd might be opening a new store here in Vancouver selling their own like called "F U" (not sure if that's the correct spelling). Does anyone know anything about this?

Hey guys! Can anyone recommend the best malls/shops (that houses brands like Comme des Garcons, Margiela, Jil Sander, Balenciaga, Prada and the likes) in Vancouver and British Columbia? Might visit this coming Spring, and I'd like to know the hippest place to go shopping!

The worst thing about Vancouver shopping is... not only can't you seem to buy anything online, but can't even browse online. Other than Gravity Pope maybe. Is this a Canadian thing do you think? You would think Holt Renfrew would have online shopping. Their website totally blows! In the States you can shop online at Neiman's, Nordstrom, Saks, Bergdorf's etc, not to mention the smaller boutiques and individual designer's websites. At least almost every major US retailer is shipping to Canada now. I hope our retailers sit up and take notice that every day they are without e-commercethey're losing money to the US. Is it just me or am I being a bit unreasonable? Sorry for the rant my fellow Vancouverites!

I know that Aritzia is planning on introducing online shopping in the coming months (ironically, this happens AFTER they are taken over by a US company).

I think Holts just isn't big enough to put the money into online shopping (all the costs for creation, maintenance, customer service agents, etc). I mean, lets be honest, Holts is pitiful compared to the big US chains. I had big hopes when they expanded our store-it is a lot better, but the selection is still so limited.

Agreed. Some designers barely have one full rack of clothes. Not to mention, brand selection is rather limited.

I would die for them to carry Gareth Pugh. While we're at it, it would be really nice if they carried Vivienne Westwood. But I think those type of brands are too "out there" for them. The clothes, while beautiful, are always very "safe" at Holts.

I would be nice if they chose some of the more interesting pieces from collections. If I'm going to be paying their prices, I want the piece to look special...so to say.

Have you ever been into a shop called "Leone"? It's on West Hastings, right across from Chanel, I believe. They carry a few brands Holts doesn't. Don't know about pricing, though. I've never been in.
