molly sims is not good

its just the reality. high fashion is more prestigious. :o

euguenia is a far more respected model than molly sims.
doesnt matter if more MTV fans know molly. she stinks. :yuk:
the high fashion- top mag- top shows- girls are the top of modelling.

commercial girls are far less appealing except in the rare cases of girls who can do both high fashion & VS like gisele, winberg, buswell, elise -
natalia is a top high fashion girl & her doing CK isnt selling out its respected.

we can discuss every girl indivdually but as a general rule the high fashion girls > commercial girls. :o
natalia has a much bigger career than KK ever did its just the fact.

Could someone post this photo of Karolina, when she was a brunette, please ?

i think what bothers people so much is that the "high fashion" clique is extremely exclusive, and really an underground culture, since very few of the names of prominent fashion folk are heard in the popular culture. its very similar to underground music bands, in that when an indie rock band, for example, suddenly signs on with Nike, or MacDonalds, they are viewed to have "sold out" and then people turn against them.

i've often wondered why that happens and why people don't instead say, "wow. that's awesome that they just scored millions of dollars to sell a song to Nike." i think the answer comes in the fans themselves. when you are part of an underground culture, there is a very specific exclusivity about your nature that you WANT to maintain. you don't like the commercial things because that goes against this idea that you are IN on something underground and cool. something that only a few lucky people get to be in on.

the world of high fashion is absolutely no different. people love Commes des Garcons because the designers refuse to go mainstream. there is a certain respect that comes with just doing it for the art. and that is absolutely understandable. lady_grey, you mentioned that you have never liked KK, so you are not included in what i'm about to say, but i really think that there are alot of people who really liked KK when she first came out, but who felt betrayed by her in some way when she did more commercial projects like VS. this is why there is so much anti-gisele threads as well. its like a slap in the face for you to have placed these models at the top of your sub-culture and then have them toss it out the door for more money/fame/recognition, etc.

all of that aside though. i really think that KK is a great model. when she first hit the runways, she was the hottest thing since sliced bread. she has a fantastic walk and when she is moving down the runway, all eyes are on her, because there is something about her that is simply captivating. that is why all the commercial markets recognize her and try to get her for their projects. and she excels there as well. look at her in the Victoria's Secret catalogue, or on their runway. she stands out. she is magnificent. and her personality is so exuberant, why wouldn't she want to do different things and different experiences?

i understand why people feel like she and gisele have sold out. i can understand why you wouldn't like her anymore because of that. but think of all the great SUPERmodels that we all idolize:
Cindy, Naomi, Christy, Linda, Kate, etc etc. These models are our favourites because we've had the chance to see their personalities. they've all done commercial things. Naomi released a music album. Cindy has done countless swimsuit ads, etc. But they are so adored because they are REAL. We've been able to witness their trials and tribulations and they've become like real people instead of just a doll-like face on the runway. What interest can a 16 year old child have for a grown adult? Just her pretty face? But what's beyond that? Where's the personality? the growth? the ego? the fire? determination? resiliance? etc etc.

i say we should honour the models like Karolina and Gisele because they are the closest thing that we have to those models of yesterday that everyone so deeply adores.

I absolutely agree.

Karolina in the beginning was far more idolized than Natalia ever was. And still she doesn't have a tenth of the fame that Karolina does.

And at first, I too was a bit upset about Karolina doing Victoria's Secret. But it is really good, and other top models like Erin Wasson are even getting in on it.

Wouldn't L'oreal be considered extremely commercial as well? Because now Natalia is featured in every pharmacy in the States. And I don't think that Calvin is one of the more respected campaigns, just one of the higher paid campaigns. Now if Natalia had signed an exclusive contract with Prada, Valentino, or Dior that would be a bit different.

"Slavs in Fashion"..? Sorry me for being pedantic, but a little remark - Carmen is Estonian i.e. she`s Baltic and Eugenia is a Tatar (as some another dark looking Russian models). So its not only about Slavs.
Actually I think that the most Slavic looking models of today are Natalia, Karolina and Hana.
all in all, I dont like this cover:doh:

kk vs natalia

no, kk was NEVER called 'the #1 girl of the moment'

natalia was called that both in us vogue & vanity fair.
and shes been the darling of W, italian vogue & other top level mags for several years.
KK is known for lesser campaigns like Kors & TH.

KK has never had a campaign as important as CK. nati has gotten gigantic CK exposure for several years. for decades CK has been one of the most prestigious campaigns at least since brooke shields but poss longer.

vf

I strongly recommend buying the issue. youive got to see in your hands how hot euguenia, marija, valentina, poly & inguna look.

it totally justifies every claim made for these girls beauty sexiness & of the moment predominence in the business & if it didnt you know Id say so.

Valentina, Marija are the models to watch. THey have unbelievable fresh, beautiful faces. Have you seen a small pic of Hana with the group? OMG, she's so tall and skinny.....Horrible!!! She's almost scary, I read somewheer that she needs to be transported from one tent to the other by a wheelchair during fashion week. I don't want to meet her at the dark corner of an alley at night. Scary!

Don't you think Karolina's first 4 teeth are fake? I know her since she was 14 y.o. and she really looked different. But I didn't want to believe she would go to plastic surgery...

KK is Ana Wintour's creation. She was modelling for a while as a brunette with a slightly bigger nose. Miss Anna W waved her magic wand on her and gave her a make-over (blond hair, a nose, teeth ), reduce her age to 15. Presto, we had KK as we know her!

Good lord those are some beautiful women.

This article was written by the same type of person that goes to a club and looks over the shoulder of the DJ writing down the tracks.

wintour robot

 exactly KK was completely created by anna wintour. I never liked her look, ever [well maybe in 1 vogue bikini edit ever] and even if she became successful it was such a wintour creation, & such a makeover from her authentic look, I never rated her as anything important.
natalia's career is so much more impressive & shes been embraced by the leading lights in western fashion since she showed up. karl as only 1 example. B)

Would you really belive that Natalia's 2 years older than sweet 21 KK?

^You can't tell how old a model is by her looks. Carmen Kass is in her mid twenties and looks in her mid thirties. But thats her own fault.

Anyway, I got this issue in the mail today and it was great! Everyone in it is so beautiful and its a shame that Hana Souplokova's only quotes are, "It was really hot and this black people in the city!"(about NYC) and "He stick on the wall there." Oh well...

^^^LOL. Sounds like you can get a lot of words of wisdom by hanging out with Hana.

hana , kk

:o hana has very rudimentary english so she seems barely able to command her thoughts- was she trying to say she was surprised at the quanity of black peopel in nyc? still not sure. :yuk:

Kk claims to be 21. she came to modelling fame in 1999. so she was 15 then? the word was in 1999/2000 that KK had already had 3 or so years of false starts as a model, including brunette 80s looking hair.
then she had a wintour makeover incl blonde hair & facial surgery.

so probably she WASNT 15 in 1999, she may have been 18-19-20.
which would make her about 26 now- TOTALLY believeable.
both she & carmen talk about their careers winding down.- 26/27 sounds logical.

yes carmen can look a lot older at times- she has been through SO MUCH including years of rumoured eating problems, obvious drinking abusem and rumoured drug problems/bad crowd. the VF piece even hints at that ' a decade of late nights' & lots of booze talk. :o
