Clearly there are many who do otherwise they wouldn't actually be on the cover, would they. They sell. Vanity Fair aren't idiots.

And it's an International magazine, not just for the USA. The UK gets exactly the same cover.

They're celebrities like any other celebrity and we live in a celebrity obsessed culture. Same reason kimye were on the cover of Vogue. Furthermore Americans hardly care about foreigners except for the British, although it's mighty narrow minded to think one should only read about fellow Americans, don't you think??

The question was why would American's care. My answer was that clearly some do, or they wouldn't be on the cover.

It was taken whilst they were on tour in Australia, I think? It's a paprazzi shot.

Exactly what nationality has to do with it anyway is beyond me. They are, in essence, a celebrity couple and are followed to the ninth degree as such, they just happen to be part of a Royal family.

British magazines are almost constantly covered by Americans. We've had Michelle Obama on covers, Obama himself on the cover of our Vanity Fair edition, Hilary Clinton is even on a cover this month over here not to mention the random covers that magazines like Tatler produce with princesses and whoever from around the world.

We manage to survive just fine.

I wish it were an actual photo instead of a paparazzi candid from their tour, but I love seeing them on any cover. They just make me smile, and I am an American. I'd much rather see Kate Middleton anytime, anywhere instead of Kim Kardashian.

I don't get why they would use a photograph which the public has already seen. If you can't get them to sit for you (for a second time) then wouldn't it better not to use a paparazzi shot and choose a different cover star? To me this sort of thing looks desperate, bit sad really. I mean, I like the royals, they seem very sweet but I really dislike when non-tabloid magazines use already published pictures of them as covers (anyone remember the Tatler- Pippa Middleton cover... it was terrible).

This. SO MUCH THIS. I love them (for some inexplicable reason), and I'd rather see them on the cover over most unproven starlets and reality 'stars'.

With that said, the cover is lame. Even if they wanted to use a paparazzi shot, there HAD to have been a better one available.

This is the most laziest cover I ever seen for Vanity Fair! You mean to tell me you couldn't hire Testino to snap them? And my goodness at that male pattern baldness at 32! We're the same age and seeing him look like that so young frightens me!

Bringing Kim at the table, why is Kate any better than her? They both do nothing. I don't like this cover, Vanity Fair has no standards at all.
