I like Adam's cover because it's very striking, but the red masthead is a bad idea with that backdrop. And whoever did his makeup should be sacked. Skin looks very blotchy.

I'm never into these film franchise covers, but they must do well, and I'll not begrudge the magazine some sales during the summer months.

Right? Once again not a trace of Radhika's initial direction; the magazine is moving completely backwards to Graydon's style. It's a shame that the suits didn't allow her to develop her own voice and now Vanity Fair is a shadow of its former self.

I still have my June issue 2017 with Carrie Fisher on the cover, shot by Annie. I guess it was inevitable this magazine would quickly revert to the Graydon Carter days, but this is *such* a retread I'm a little surprised.

VF looks like EW, and Vogue does like People, what a time we are in lol.

Maybe because I have no interest in the film, I find these Star War covers like almost every year? are so tiring.

In the future this magazine will be digital only, as Teen Vogue or Glamour (why not Details ). Not direction, no identity and no sense. They have Wired for geeky stuff, and Vogue + GQ for stars... Wait, Vogue only puts reality, instagirls or married people. They need Vanity for older people like us.

I don't mind these two but can't they think of something more conceptual or dynamic than shooting them on set and in costume? It's so literal.

Why not do something inspired by the theme of the movie and not images that look like a frame from the film? Shoot them as the Jetsons, make them look like AI robots, make some commentary, make it funny or ironic, make it other-worldly, anything other than what always looks like a portrait shot between takes. Those are naff ideas, but you know what I'm saying... this is just VF on auto-pilot when they could do something really fun or outrageous.

I know the answer to those questions is that this will sell and it's memorabilia for the fans. I'm not inherently against the idea of shooting celebs as they appear in their movies; it's just that it's been done for the same franchise, by the same magazine and really recently too.
