Vanity Fair: The Pretty White Girl Issue

ok guys I am going to be the devil's advocate. What if these girls actually are the 10 best young stars of this year? shall we throw in a black actress who is sub-par just because she is black and VF need it simply to be PC. Of course I am not saying black actresses are sub par or shouldn't be on the cover or aren't any good etc.

Might just be the fact that I don't live in the US but I have no clue who Gabby Sidibe is? actually I just looked her up and you could perhaps kills two "minority" groups with one stone :ninja: (I like McDonalds too). No one can deny that the showbiz industry is overwhelmingly dominated by white and Jewish actors and actresses so of course a higher number of the best young ones are going to be pretty white girls. Not that they are the best there is just a higher concerntration.

What I am essentially saying is don't just throw in a black/asian/fat/ugly/eskimo/whatever actress in just so she can represent a certain social group, do it because she is genuinly a fabulous actress. If she gets in just to be PC society is just going around in circles (*cough* Chanel Imans vogue supermodels cover:innocent:)

ught the Pc gone mad lame excuse again.
It's perfectly OK to not have any people of color playing important roles, or women of different shapes in the media. I mean why would we? this society has gone so PC. I miss the good ole days were white blond and thin was the standard of beauty in fashion, movies, TV and magazines
oh wait!!!!!

and people now have the nerve to even complain about being invisible in the media...

Zoe Saldana was on the cover two years ago with Amy Adams, Emily Blunt. Yes it should be more diverse though, but I can't think of any younger minority actresses.

^^^^ I am not quite sure which direction you are going with your response retailqueen but PC has gone mad:ninja:

I am not saying that all celebrities that are not white are no good, not at all infact most of my favourite actors/actresses/personalities/friends aren't pretty white girls. What I am saying is don't just throw a black actress in the photo simply to have a black actress in the photo. Do it because she is fabulous.

Gosh is this the new Hollywood? I'll pass. They all look interchangeable, I only Know four those girls and I'm in no hurry to see any of their movies.

And yes it's is too White, and the boring kind of white also.

That is the problem with me to. The girls look all the same. I wouldn't be able to pick any girls of out a line up if you told me their names. They all look sour, unhappy, bland. They have no life. And Vanity fair is doing the opposite of what they intended to do. In fact, I don't want to know who they are. No thanks.

True. And I still do not know where Evan Rachel Wood is to be honest.

am so mad that all of these girls are white, why didn t they include Gabourey Sidibe she s probably a better actress than all of them put together, how many of them have been nominated for an oscar!!??!!
i lost respect for Vanity Fair

My first reaction was" It looks like a huge picnic version of Sofia Coppola Virgin Suicides and I don't know if it's a good thing"

Jezebel is a rich seam of quotes about this cover, both so true:

"Vanity Fair is the shop-window for the brutal meat market that is Hollywood. It is the wares on display."

"This looks like the most boring picnic EVER." "Pass the white bread and oatmeal."

Vanity fair should be ashamed.

I don't think a "limited" list of films should have affected the choices. Though Gabby has only had one film, she's already nearly acheieved the highest summit in Hollywood: an Oscar. Huge Oscar buzz should make one an obvious choice for a Hollywood issue. Besides, isn't it about a "NEW" Hollywood, anyway? Why would a longer list of films make one more qualified for a cover highlighting a newcomer? Most of America wouldn't readily recognize several faces on that cover, anyway.

Zoe Kravitz, Freida Pinto, Zoe Saldana, or any woman of color should have been included. Preferrably more than one or two.

She isn't part of NEW Hollywood. This issue is about the girls who Vanity Fair think will be the lead actresses of the next generation. The next Blanchetts, Winslets, Kidmans, Cruzes, etc. So of course they have to have a promising films work list to give some merit to the claim.

Sidibe's film career may not extend that long for her to establish a solid niche in Hollywood for her to last around even a few years. An Oscar nomination does not guarantee career longevity or permanency.

I don't think I could dislike Jezebel more if it came to my house with the PC police and punched me in the face. As much as I do think that a cover with diversity would have been more interesting, the argument for Gabourey is flimsy at best, she is a one film wonder until she does another project. All of these girls have payed their dues in some respect.

Anyone surprised with the cover choices has never picked up an issue of VF before this one. Young, attractive, WASPs are the bread and butter of Vanity Fair. I'm not seeing where this is some new development. Is it boring? Yes. Hell yes. But if you wanted exciting then what in the world were you doing with an issue of VF in the first place...

Well you can't really put parameters on this cover. Kristen and Amanda were already "new Hollywood" the last magazine, something that does not make at all sense, and someone like Rachel or even Kristen has been around since the beginning of dawn, i wonder how can someone see something "new" about them.

The others I do not even heard about. But I certainly heard about Gaby.
New should be about people that are about to go global or just exploded, not the same tired old faces.
