Vans slip-ons: "the unofficial sneaker of Summer 2007" ?

I LOVE LOVE Vans. I got a pair of black crepe soled slip-ons and black espadrille slip-ons, they're such clean, chic and fantastic shoes...I love them.

oh NO, its the trashiest shoes around.. much more the b&w check style

have mercy people, avoid them at all costs :ninja:

the all white are not bad, worn with shorts on a guy.

But I have seen so so so many plimsolls around this summer.. i think they are the unofficial shoe of the season.

I really like vans. slip on ones.
Unfortunately I have to say, this is not the "unofficial" trend in summer 2007. Here in Germany every idiot has slip on vans.
Maybe rare ones ( desgined by Marc Jacobs etc.);

You are so right. I bought a pair two years ago when it wasn't yet this huge trend of those stupid little teenage girls.
I just can't wear them anymore. Too many badly-dressed kids wear them and I'm so sick of them. Really.
I don't even know why it got that big in Germany.:unsure:

I have had so many pairs of my Vans stolen. I love them, though. 'Tis why I keep repurchasing.

Ive been wanting a pair for while now... I want a white pair & a navy pair.

i dont know, i guess its not like that in Germany, but where im from people wear them from childhood up. They are like converses, they are constantly popular but they have always been like that, they didnt just suddenly become trendy a few years ago. maybe its because southern california has a large skateboaring culture. Vans are always associated with that

Coverses were never "cool" around here. I mean, they were when they were new, I'm sure, but only a couple of people ever got them. They were the punk kids and the punk-posers. I love Vans. They're a basic part of my wardrobe at all times, but they've never been trendy here, at least not that I can remember.

regardless how i hate them, i admit they are very popular

like basically everything it comes down to whos wearing it and with what...you can associate them with the punk/goth/indie/skateboarding whatever look which is often the case... but ive seen them rocked with slouchy CDG trousers etc in which case they look alright.

Hahaha, are you talking about me? Actually if I hadn't packed most of my footwear I would have worn my Helmut Lang pointy lace up bluchers (sock less) but the Vans looked all right too.

Sincerely Vans slip-ons are worn in the same subcultures as Converse and have been enjoying the equivalent rise in popularity for the last few years so, once again, GQ is late to the party. I like them and think that their newfound status will help prevent one of the most heinous things to be seen during summer: grown men wearing sandals, havaianas or any sort of open toed look (I still dislike this on women for the most part but on men this is simply unacceptable in 99% of climates).

^ aha yes. and 'alright' was a bit of an understatement, i actually thought it balanced out the outfit very well (love that junya jacket too by the way.) my point was just that accessories are obviously mainly for bringing a look together so its sometimes a bit tricky to say if YOU LOVE THEM OR HATE THEM, had you been wearing a skinny puppy tshirt and cut off camo cargo shorts and a chain wallet my verdict would have been different  i even think those raf sandels look pretty cool if you can pull em off right.

the Marc Jacobs collab with Vans will go down in history as the best collab ever!

ehhh, GQ is BSing this one completely. Its just a fabrication, no one is wearings Vans more than they have been for the past several years. They really picked up as a trend at the same time that Converse became so huge, this is nothing new at all. Personally, I find them uncomfortable and hard to wear with most pants, but I think in white they are nice. Either way, they are not match to the versatility of Converses in my book...

I agree...vans look a little juvenile and sloppy...I never got into it and don't believe it will ever look good on me :ninja:

I have two pairs of the slip-ons. I like them as a casual footwear, but I also really like to put them with some kind of dressy shirt && blazer, maybe skinny jeans, and then the slip-ons. I have the Vans checkered pair, which is kind of pointless, beause I don't think I've ever even worn them, haha. But, I also have a pair of Juicy Couture slip-ons, that I adore : http://www.bergdorfgoodman.com/stor...26405&masterId=cat20073&index=11&cmCat=search [if anyone just happens to want to check them out, haha.] But, I have the pink pair, which apparently you can't get online?

i thought they are always here. i cant see people rushing to buy them because it is labelled as the unofficial sneaker of the summer

however, i have seen more girls around here(suburbs of toronto) going for keds rather than ballet flats or (ugh) flip flops

edit: speaking of unofficial wear, i seen more birkenstocks. good thing they are not worn with socks

Keds are much more cute on girls than Vanszzz

actually its basically (just) boys who wear vans,
the wanna-be-street/skate/cool kids
who actually are quite off limits with the 'real'street/skte/cool kids
