Wow, I never thought Vans could be trendy 'again.' They've always been good shoes. They've been around since 1966. They're like Levi's, the design is so timeless that they won't go out of style. Old skaters liked them because they're very dexterous, you can feel the board through that thin layer of canvas and the shoe itself is very flexible. The front guard thing on the sole is ribbed and grips boards better. True, skaters today won't wear the old school Vans, let alone the slip-ons, but let's remember Chucks started out as basketball shoes.
Anyway, hip or not, I've worn the damn things since I was a toddler. Now I like my all black ones (black soles too!), ripped up and torn, but they feel at home. I also just found a box that my brother had, 20+ years ago, that a pair of Vans came in. Checkered pattern, blue and white print on the box. I'll get a pic when I can.
