Vans slip-ons: "the unofficial sneaker of Summer 2007" ?

Wow, I never thought Vans could be trendy 'again.' They've always been good shoes. They've been around since 1966. They're like Levi's, the design is so timeless that they won't go out of style. Old skaters liked them because they're very dexterous, you can feel the board through that thin layer of canvas and the shoe itself is very flexible. The front guard thing on the sole is ribbed and grips boards better. True, skaters today won't wear the old school Vans, let alone the slip-ons, but let's remember Chucks started out as basketball shoes.

Anyway, hip or not, I've worn the damn things since I was a toddler. Now I like my all black ones (black soles too!), ripped up and torn, but they feel at home. I also just found a box that my brother had, 20+ years ago, that a pair of Vans came in. Checkered pattern, blue and white print on the box. I'll get a pic when I can.

i would wear them to work, (i work in a school) and all the kids thought they look ugly, but i didn't care because they are comfortable.

by the end of the year, a rather sizable group of had a pair.

I would disagree. It's true, the shoe has been around forever, but now everyone seems to have it, every shoestore sells them. I'd take that as a trend.

Yeah I goes that's true. I did notice a sudden spike .

I have a slip ons but vans. I don't see this as trend though.

Ha-ha too bad I can't edit a typo. I have slip ons but not vans :innocent::lol:

^

what I meant is that I see slip-ons as a trend, not necessarily Vans slip-ons

ugh... vans... avril lavigne crc. 2003... ugh...

Again, I equate this as people more etched in the punk/rock scene. These Vans slip-ons and knock offs are still equated to me as part of mainstream America selling out to the hard rock scene. Maybe I'm not huge on rock music, but it's what I'm basically seeing with these Vans-style slip-ons. I do remember some Keds slip-ons about 10 years ago. Those were pretty much fine as Keds were almost the official "it" sneaker for girls then. Almost never hard to find a girl who wore those Keds Champion sneakers last decade.

As with any trend, you're going to have your lovers and your haters. I think Hell would freeze over if some of the most beautiful celebrities (namely women and some overly handsome men) starting wearing such sneakers as paparazzi flash them until their camera batteries run out of juice.

Ok I'll admit I started re-wearing my busted *** vans because it was the "unofficial sneaker of 2007"

Keds are much more cute on girls than Vanszzz

actually its basically (just) boys who wear vans,
the wanna-be-street/skate/cool kids
who actually are quite off limits with the 'real'street/skte/cool kids

I don't think Vans were the shoe of the summer in NYC. I saw more plain plimsoles like the the regular white Keds (with and without laces), along with many of the Chinatown look-alikes in black and white (Easy USA brand). These are better than Vans b/c they have a slimmer profile and no name attached to the like Vans do...
The Easy's sell for $2-3 bucks in Chinatown and I started seeing them a bunch 1.5-2 years ago on cool kids. Walked into Urban Outfitters 2 months ago and they were selling the Chinatown Easy's for $16. OMG
