What are your thoughts on this? It's been brewing streetstyle wise for a while and there's something very idyllic and nostalgic about it, I think.

I don't like it when it's overdone with jewelry and embroidery, I find the simple looking ones best.

Here are a few looks google helped me find:

I love it so much. I rarely wear jackets but I just can't resist with this one. I love that there are so many cut/colours/variation of varsity jackets nowadays. I guess thanks to Riccardo Tisci for making it trendy.

I agree, and it's the one trend I find equally good on women and men.

hmmm---
does this go with the baseball cap trend?
and the sneaker trend...
:ermm:...

im not really digging any of it, tbh...
especially worn all together...

but that might have to do with my age and my complete disinterest in organized sports of any kind...

...

fantasy fashion baseball...
i just don't see it...
god forbid somebody chipped a nail...

I haven't seen this trend IRL, lots of people here wear varsity jackets but not in a dressy, fashion-conscious way as seen in the examples. Here, it's more of a sports fan or vintage look.

I can't say I like any of the pairings with dresses, looks a bit forced to me. Some of the casual looks are ok.

:lol::lol:

I'm not entirely sure about the baseball cap trend but I do think it ties in with sneakers trend though this steers more vintage-y than that

Tangerine - Maybe it's because I'm not in a culture where people normally wear varsity jackets, especially women, so when they do, it's always a fashion statement

I was just thinking today, when seeing a girl at University wearing a frilly super girly pink cardigan and bootcut jeans paired with bright neon running shoes, how much I hate when people pair feminine/elegant with sporty casual. It never looks right to me. The first look on Karolina Kurkova is alright because that's a rather chic version of the Varsity jacket, but I don't like any of the other examples. But I think this trend has been on the rise for a while now, I can definitely see this becoming big this summer.

i think that the bomber or blouson jacket is the over arching trend, really...
plus you have the whole leather sleeve trend...
seems like it kind of morphed into this...it's easy to translate into a varsity jacket...
plus- a vintage varsity jkt is probably cheaper than some designer thing...
is h&m doing varsity jackets...?
that, to me, is a sign of a trend hitting saturation point...
and the cheapest way to go......

the baseball cap is def a thing and is def happening...
i can bear witness to this fact...

all black sneakers are also a thing...
converse, ann dem, supergas, etc...

I really like this trend. I do agree it looks forced with dresses except for the last images in post #1, it works with that dress, maybe because it is black.

I hate ball caps. But I will admit to the sneakers trend. I do love me a good shoe.

I admit that from a purely aesthetic standpoint they can be okay. And I think it's excusable on teenagers and those with no culture of wearing varsity jackets. But for those of us who do have this culturally engrained, much less have worn them in school for years:ninja:, these things carry way too much significance to be able to be seen neutrally... I mean, they are essentially uniforms, you know? And not even nice ones. Some uniforms have survived enough mutations and permutations in fashion throughout the years to have attained relative neutrality (military looks, for example) but these are nowhere near. Just my two cents...

would have just edited my previous post of i could

oh---so it's hedi slimane copying some vintage stuff and sticking a huge pricetag on it?...

right--then it's definitely a trend...

...

Oh my goodnesss... you are so on point! :flower: As someone who went to a high school where if you were on a sports team you had to have a varsity jacket or else you weren't 'cool,' these jackets are bringing back so many memories for me. I never personally had one (since I quit swim team before I could have ordered one) but pretty much all the athletes at my school had such jackets. To me they have a very 'All-American' connotation with them, you know, very small town where receiving a varsity jacket or wearing your boyfriend's is a big thing. A stereotype perhaps but one that I've personally seen in my hometown. So seeing this trend on "fashion people" is a tad surreal. While I personally don't think I'd wear it because of my previous experience with these jackets, I think that quite a few of the women in the pictures above pull the look off. Maybe it's because they pair it with something more girly that I think it works.

And as for the trend of baseball caps, well, that's one that I like. Sometimes I'll wear my UConn cap or steal my sister's rowing cap, I like that it gives a sporty edge to my looks without being too forced (such as the case of wearing a varsity jacket).

nah.. I'll leave this particular trend back in HS where it belongs. :p

...

omg---that is SO great...
so he wears the one from the thrift store and sells the designer version to all the fashion sheep for thousands!!!...$$$$$$$$$$$

thank you for this pic...
made my day!...

...
