Versace F/W 2018.19 by Steven Meisel

It’s weird but I feel like The IG video was the main reason of the campaign and that they just put the individual shots next to each other as a supporting act but it loose the impact by doing that.

It’s not a bad campaign but it’s weird. I liked the collections tho

The casting is really questionable. Since what Natalie Westling is doing Versace? Maybe it was hard to bring 54 models to one place for shooting a campaign (so you have to cast some fillers), but don't do this then! :hardhead:

Such girls as Remington Williams, Lily Nova, Hannah Motler, etc. are clearly Meisel's choises. They have nothing to do with Versace woman, imo. Also I find Kaia Gerber, Kris Grikaite, Sara Grace, Fran Summers, Cara Taylor, etc. too young lookings for Versace campaign, but I'm fine with them walking a runway show.

Replace Stella Maxwell (wtf is she doing here?) with Anna Ewers, Natalie Westling with Kiki Willems, Imari Karanja with Binx Walton, girl between male model and Adela Stenberg with Teddy Quinlivan, WHOEVER with Birgit Kos - would be so much better. And why on earth Bella & Gigi? You have cast of the 54 models and still bring them. It's 2018 already!

Male casting is all on Meisel as I see, but I'm not mad.

And by the end, all this mess looks like something they better post on Instagram before the runway show as promo pic or something. The only good thing about this campaign is that you can photoshop out the miscasts and make 3/4 groups with 4-5 people + add a Versace logo.

I'm more surprised about Kiki and Birgit! Why are there some extremely random models in this but not them?

I guess scheduling conflicts might be the reason.

Lol at scheduling conflicts. When Meisel and Donatella call, you answer and cancel everything u got going on, they just didn’t get book, which is a shame cause Kiki is better than most of the cast combined. Besides, Lily Nova, that remington girl, Blesnya, Imari, Aube, Hanna, Stella, Emily, both Natalie Ogg and Westling, Julia, and a couple more got NOTHING to do in a Versace campaign by Meisel. In the words of Instagram quotes: ISSA MESS.

I think Versace campaigns, as we know it, has been a thing of the past ever since Weber put his slimey biker paws on the brand. Last season Meisel tried somewhat to bring it back, and this season he failed. Time to give Klein a call!

Cancel something potentially good to be part of a cast of 54 models? I don't think so.

This applies to someone like Lineisy these days and we don't even know if she has something potentially good to cancel just so she could be a part of this mess

It could be a 200 models cast and you and i both know they would cancel ANYTHING for Meisel/Donatella Lol. Especially when the casting has far more relevant models than them such as Vitto, Rianne, Gigi, Bella, Imaan, Adut, Kaia, etc.

True! I mean, she's probably won't flinch to cancel a one page sitting for British or American Vogue (her only constant flow of print work) for this. Because other than that nobody is hustling hard to tie her down with an OG edit or campaign. Let alone cover. And quite right too, if you ask me.

They're so retouched that I haven't recognized my baby Julia

Another brand added to her pristine list.

You just cannot have a good ad with such an obnoxious collection.
Anything will look cheap and tacky.

Versace's PR seems to pushing the 'campaign with the longest ever advertising image' angle really hard! I'm convinced this was Meisel's idea. Unless Donatella, in a true backstabbing move not unheard of in fashion, tried to one up her best friend? Prada had all the tongues wagging with their mass model campaign a few years ago.

Time for Guiness to make another entry....

What an awful campaign. They're obviously trying to be 'cool' and 'inclusive' to cater to millennials.

Awful indeed, and just all sorts of naff for a brand like Versace (and especially compared to last season's campaign and campaigns from the past). This definitely does feel like something we'd get from the likes of Giampaolo Sgura, and does feel way beneath the usual Steven Meisel standard. Very bland, lifeless and amateur.

The cast of 54 models doesn't bother me but the lack of creativity is evident. They could've easily done a similar setup to the Fall 2004 campaign (great mention BTW, apple) which would've felt more quintessential Versace. The whole 'longest group shot ever' isn't exactly groundbreaking.

Exactly, they are not even big models yet to skip woking with Meisel / Donatella, that would be so stupid of them. They need this, so it's safe to say they were not considered.

For anyone that's interested, this is how the campaign will be laid out inside the magazines:

It looks cool, it draws my attention and I feel like spending some time checking every detail.

the layout in the magazine makes the images far more interesting and appealing
