Donatella Versace’s Spring/Summer 1998 show for Versace was presented at Milan Fashion Week. Out of respect to the late Gianni Versace, this Spring/Summer show closed the weeklong presentation of the Spring/Summer 1998 ready-to-wear collections in Milan, and Donatella Versace’s first collection offered a melancholic reflection upon the late designer’s work and life. The garments paid homage to Gianni Versace, with his signature well-cut suits and barely there silk dresses, yet with an edge more in keeping with Donatella’s personal style. The presentation was fast-paced, with Gianni’s favourite supermodels Naomi Campbell, Kate Moss, Amber Valletta, and Stella Tennant commanding the runway in full force. For the finale, models showcased sheer maxi gowns trimmed with crystal beads, ushering in a new era for the eponymous brand. Models wore their hair slicked back with natural makeup and minimal accessories; the occasional leather handbag, black strappy pumps, and brightly coloured stilettos.
