I used to read Tatler and get really annoyed with rich kids who seemed to have the opportunity to do anything they liked - they'd suddenly become 'models' or 'designers' - until I realised, that's not something to condemn, because the worst thing in life is to have those opportunities and NOT to make the most of them.
Victoria now has the worldwide profile to produce a range of clothing that her name is on. She's probably been dreaming of it for years, and now has the chance. All designers have teams behind them that help create the clothing, and who make up for whatever deficiencies the designer has. There have been numerous designers who have had personal problems of such magnitude, I'm surprised they were able to work at all - yet they still got all the kudos for the clothes, because they're the brand's 'creative figurehead'.
That Victoria has chosen Mouret's team is a sign to me that (a) she's market-savvy, and (b) she wants to create something that will genuinely flatter women's figures, like Mouret's designs do.
I'll not knock the woman for having a go, with the means at her disposal. Any budding designer who gets irritated about it should invest the energy into thinking up ways to improve their reputation, so that they get a slice of the same action that Victoria has proven is within reach for an ordinary girl with big dreams.
