SAN FRANCISCANS!! I was there this morning and it was a bit of a nut house, but everyone was more or less civilized so that is good. The first person in line got there at 4:30 AM (the time I wanted to go but couldn't get out of bed to do so). I got there around 7:15 AM and was maybe about the 35th-40th person in line. Not bad. I was banking on not too many people knowing about Viktor and Rolf.
H&M passed out some free goodies to the first 100 persons standing in line, scarf and gloves for women and hat and gloves for men.
I forgot who asked, but the smallest size I saw in anything was a size 34 or XS (which seemed more like a small to me). So don't feel bad about not showing up. I think it sucks for those are petite or on the skinnier side - a lot of the items kind of ran large-ish.
When I got in there I pretty much grabbed everything I could find that fit me and my friend and dumped anything that was extra. I came home with 32 items.
I know, I am crazy!!! But I really didn't have time to try on stuff nor did I want to give anything up so I carried 3 bags of clothes home before heading back to work. I pretty much got home and tried everything on right away. I am tired and my brain hurts from thinking about what to keep. The following is what I acquired today:
- grey sweatshirt with metallic spiral detailing (unique, soft material)
- white shirt with heart in the middle (looks really cool with grey sweatshirt over it....provided the sweatshirt is fitted)
- the khaki/olive-greenish ruffle front dress (my #1 choice that i attacked first
)....the sizing is weird on me...i may either bring this in for tailoring or get a smaller size if there are any left
- the black version of the above...this one fits better but i rather have the khaki one
- sheer pink silk blouse with the heart in the front (this one is really nice but i got one size too large i think...and it's a real feminine blouse, not really my taste although i love how silky soft it feels...it's in my maybe pile
)
- tan trench coat (i personally think the quality is amazing given that it's only $130)
- black trench coat
- brownish silk tan wrap dress with the ribbon print (think i may return this one)
- black sweater dress with knot detailing and heart patent belt
- black sweater version of the above
- black silk top with the heart-shape cut-outs
I am returning more than half of what I got today back to the store. All larger sizes of the above pretty much minus a few items that I only got one each of. As for the quality, I always feel that you pay for what you get. I know this is H&M stuff so I am not expecting super quality (why should I when the rest of their stuff isn't?) but I did expect unique, fun designs, some good tailoring, and better fabrics than the usual H&M stuff. I feel that this collection has it. Especially the trench coat. It's made of pretty good quality and thick cotton that will keep me warm for fall, it's lined with heart shape pattern lining which makes the interior very fun to look at, and the pleating at the waist is awesome. On top of this, I think the design is really great. I do admit, though, that the Stella collection was higher quality, but that's mainly because she demanded it or she threatened to pull out of the deal (that's the rumor anyway...can anyone confirm this??). Anyway...
For those who waited in line super earlier than I did, they were able to grab some of the rarer items (e.g. sheer silk blouse with heart in front) but I don't think they had the advantage of getting everything they wanted in their size. Initially when I got inside and started grabbing the ruffle dress and trench coats, all of them were in size 40, 42, 44. I was thinking WTF to myself, how could I possible screw this up for myself, getting the wrong size when I pretty much landed my hands on those racks first (these were all the way in the back of the collection and I made a mad dash for it...most were hovering near the front still). Turns out they put out many clothes (not all) in the larger sizes first (don't know if this was intentional) and later on as the racks cleared they started bringing out smaller sizes, ones that everyone wanted and needed. Thank goodness! I was about to have a heart attack not getting the ruffles dress in my size (though I think the size 6 is still a wee bit large...don't know if it's a fluke or not). The staff were very calm and very organized as they re-stocked, always about 6-8 items at a time, and always announcing what they were bringing out and asking "who needs a size X??". All in all, I was glad I got there no later or earlier given that I got a lot of stuff and given that the staff was still bringing out stock of all the stuff I was interested in.
Maybe next year I will see some TSFers there!
I need to now decompress from all the excitement and thinking about what to keep... my arms hurt from carrying so much stuff...anyone else?
