Viktor & Rolf for H&M

She also said that H&M will do a lot of PR to enlighten the H&M costumers about Viktor & Rolf and who "they are".
Oui, H&M will go all out with publicity, mainstream magazines and all that jazz.. which seems to be what they want. And it won't even cost them a penny..

I'm kind of curious now. I hope they don't offer us plastic antlers.

when these designers design for H&M i really dont think it mathers if it is Stella, Karl or V&R who designs because the mass of people who shops at H&M often dont know these designers and therefore dont care about it, when these desigerns design for H&M its often a totally different target who shops at H&M during these periods which normally don't shop there - the more into fashion people, heh. So im sure this collection would end as fast as Karl.

damn im bad at explaining and english, haha.

Unexpected... but I really want to see this. :) I hope this collection fits better than the lagerfeld collection. I couldn't buy anything from that because everything was so wierdly cut and sacky in parts it shouldn't be... :) Can't wait until november...

i cant wait. when does this come out. i do have a feeling they are just going to be doing basics though, nothing spectacular or standout, just an attached name and higher prices

absolutely......

:woot:..i want plastic antlers....:bounce:...
NOW THAT WOULD BE WORTH WAITING IN LINE FOR!!!...

..

to answer a couple quest.-
the la redoute stuff was pretty darn inexpensive...
and pretty crap quality- as la redoute generally is...
the stuff looked good- but mostly the fit was horrible...
the boots gapped completely on my legs(returned)
and the pants-well-they were just B A D...:ninja:
and i had to modify the neck of the swtr- but now that looks good at least...

i think that the items were manufactured in turkey??...
using basic inexpensive fabrics-wool and silk...

and the sweater was about $45
the pants were about the same
boots-maybe $100-around that

so VERY reasonable...
i expect it will be quite similar actually...in every way...
but i certainly hope to be pleasantly surprised...
they might attract an OLDER customer to h&m with this actually...
since v&r isn't exactly a 'trendy' brand...i mean...mostly teenagers and 20-somethings bought the stella stuff...

and they could certainly do with some brand recognition...and free press
no one in the states really cares about or wears v&r....
it isn't very popular here at all...
:ermm:

the stuff was -
black tuxedo pant(which karl also did)
a white shirt (which karl also did)
a grey or ivory puff slv t-nk swtr- which i have
a tux jkt-which karl also did
a blk silk shirt dress-which was actually quite nice
they also did boots- which i bought and returned cause they were awful
and grey flannel trousers-see above...

i don't know why, but i defiitely sense a drop of sarcasm here...i like it;) :innocent:

ABOUT the collection, i hope i'm eating my hat after this, i really do, but right now the idea seems , their recent collections have been weak...they do something and someone kicks their a$$ a couple of days later.

i dunno, i predict a lot of formal clothes like suiting, silks, wools, a very refined wardrobe..well as refined as they can get on an h&m budget..althought the company is known to be quite permisssive and generous

this is my first post so I'd just like to say hi to everyone

I just saw this film on V&R and altho i've always liked their work it really got me to actually wanting to own some items. I was thinking of getting something timeless like a nice dress shirt... and now they're doing the collab with H&M it should be good news for me then i can pay less for it.. but then in some weird sense i acutally do wanna pay more for the original V&R... i dunno how to explain it.

i guess some of the collab between designers and H&M/target and the like do actaully downgrade the name of the designer brand.. like Luella and target, it felt like the luella was selling out. but Karl and H&M it didn't feel so..

so my feelings are really kinda mixed about this V&R / H&M thing.

I know that the majority of the people who shop there doesn't really know those designers but many of them do now as H&M seems to attract wealthy people as well. I've seen many customers wearing designers stuff and carrying bags from ysl, marc jacobs, neiman marcus, vuitton... all over the place. In the san francisco store, I've noticed many 'older' people that I wasn't used to see in europe. I also worked for a french designer and many customers also shopped at H&M a lot so they would spend a $1000 for designer stuff and were carrying H&M bags .

agreed.
i'm also a fan of their Monsieur line, their menswear, yes could 'happen' well for h&m. but not their womanswear

they are not 'pop' enough for the h&m client

I so agree, I love the womenswear on the catwalk but the RTW is often a weak shadow of what it is supposed to be... I expect lots of ribbon items, although I really like the fact they can show themselves to the rest of the world!

VIKTOR & ROLF FOR H&M

The democratization of luxury is going on and on... Dutch wonderboys Viktor&Rolf will take over H&M!

The design duo Viktor & Rolf and H&M have announced their collaboration for the autumn 2006 season. Viktor & Rolf, known for their high concept fashion shows and modern twist on classically tailored clothes, will design a collection of women's and men's wear to be produced and distributed by H&M.

The one-time collection will be available at selected H&M stores on all H&M markets across Europe, North America and the Middle East. To be launched in November 2006.

Viktor & Rolf started their career in 1993 when they won the Hyères Fashion Festival. Through exhibitions, installations, haute couture shows, and since 2000, women's ready-to-wear, they have received international acclaim as one of fashion's most innovative labels. Their brand now includes a men's line, scarves, underwear, glasses and shoes as well as a perfume range. The duo’s renowned collections comprising sharp tailoring and clever artistry sell in over 20 countries worldwide. Their first signature store, which is entirely upside down, has won many design awards and was opened in Milan last year.

'If Haute couture is the most sublime form of fashion, H&M is fashion at its most democratic. Our roots are based in couture. It's the heart and soul of our work. But we also love to play with opposites: transformation is a key element of our signature style. For us, fashion is an antidote to reality. It's a great opportunity to communicate our vision with such a large audience of H&M devotee,' say the designers Viktor & Rolf.

'We really admire Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren and are fascinated by their unique way of working with design, combining their artistic talent with great craftsmanship. We look forward to offering our customers a collection by these extraordinary designers,' says H&M's head of design Margareta van den Bosch.

True that luxury has been democratized a lot through masstige..

but it is also going towards higher luxury than ever!

and after all for V&R this is a true opportunity to make their work more pop' and obvious for non fashionistas!:ninja:

anyway I was so disappointed by previous collaborations with Karl Lagerfeld, Stella or Solange Azagury that I don't expect a massive thing...

Totally agree with you Susie. V+R are TOO conceptual for H+M - they aren't Stella or Karl. I'll reserve judgement till the pieces swing from the rails - but I'm not convinced. I doubt half H+M's market even know who V+R are, let alone how they design....

I agree too. there is no doubt, that it WILL sell well. sellout in fact. it's viktor and rolf!!!! but as was stated above, their designs are couture and conceptual. translating it to mass produced, low quality cheap clothing might be a problem. it might not even look like it's been designed by them chances are, the only reference it will have to them is thew tag.

but if it does look good...i'll want to get my hands on them for me and my sister. but crap...it will be so unbelievably crowded that i probably won't be able to get anything...

it's true. there are some students who are on the same foundation course as me at LCF who hasn't heard of viktor and rolf, let alone karl lagerfeld. so, ppl who crowd into the stores during that time period are those who know who the designers are, or read about them in a magazine prior to H&M selling it and want in on the action.

and don't forget that designers accept to design for HM (plus a extra $$$$$$$ check) to better their brand awareness!

people who usually don't give a f*ck of Vr or don't even know them will discover them... especially young people who are obvious targets of big brands, as Chanel, Stella and co.
