And I was just using the JCP thing as an example. Like I hear that a majority of the jobs in fashion merchandising, are low paying, not very reuputible, and hard to get into. True, or not true?
I think they pay you based on your position and which area you are merchandising...
If you were to be the visual merchandiser of the flagship JCP in New York City you would probably expect a higher salary or hourly wage because it's a more popular JCP and New York city is a very big city and has a high number of tourists. You would make more money however if you were a Merchandiser state-wide or province-wide because not only would the visuals be under your direction but you would be held responsible if the merchandising pleased or displeased customers.
It does also depend on the company you work for too, I think luxury businesses are likely to pay you much better if you ask me. it's always good to develope a portfolio of your work and present it to your future job interviewees and go from there.
