Vogue Australia August 2020 : Adut Akech by Christine Centenera

I’ve never been a fan of Centenera’s work...
While I do not like her personal style either, I think that her best project is her fashionista persona.

That being said, I like this cover. But yet again, the styling is terrible!
Look at the shot of Adut in that Balenciaga coat! So unfortunate!
The styling in that whole ed is problematic.

I wonder how Josh Olins, Jackie Nickerson, and Bibi Cornejo Borthwick will feel about the edit because it's basically a mash-up of their current styles combined.

Wish they were making the effort to break the mold. This is all rather pedestrian catalogue.

The cover select is actually the strongest by far of the entire shoot. These horrendously juvenile angles are clearly targeted at kidz freshly weened off Monster High and LOLZ dolls with its similar forced perspective angles-- and Tik Tok. And I suppose in that sense, Adut is the ideal candidate since she possesses just about as much the same range as those dolls (and without her signature skinhead, she’s completely lost her edge). This sort of photography is just the worst; I’d rather see Adut cluelessly taking selfies with her new iPhone 12 tie-in promo than this.

(And the entire issue is wretched, with this being the only fashion story. Thought maybe Benn just gave up on posting the rest of the fashion contents, but this is it LOL There's a reprint of Emma’s logo-bags shoot which is so random they should have just left it out. I have to remind myself this is Vogue otherwise it feels and looks like some national news rag with a fashion story slipped in.)

Almost every image of the editorial would’ve made a better cover than the one they actually used. They really did her dirty with that cover but she still looks gorgeous though.

Adut hasn’t wowed me since possibly her first few covers/editorials she doesn’t seem to put in much effort and the small effort I do see is less than stellar but tbh that’s most of this new generation of models I can name possibly 10 that give any effort and Adut is not on that list

Deborah Mailman; Leah Purcell or Jessica Mauboy deserve this cover more then Adut Akech Bior … again. I don’t think this styling appeals to Australian Women - it’s hideous

This is easily my favorite cover from VA this year, so far. Just love the angle, and it has that VA vibe, they have done so many similar shoots in the past. Well done to CC, she really must take over once Edwina is out.

I think Adut actually did a good job with what they gave her but it's definitely not great overall.

Editors should stay editors and Designers should stay designers. Leave the photography to the pros.

Not an amazing cover but it looks interesting and it would take attention at a bookstore. Many people would want to take a look in it.
