Vogue Germany March 2021 : Akon Changkou by Julia Noni

That a beautiful profile. A different layout would’ve elevated it more.

Stunning portrait! I don't think the Chanel earring worked for the styling and overall vibe of the cover and maybe another colour instead of that garish pink, but it's certainly better than most of their 2020 covers.

Meh. Seen better, and just reminds me of Karim Sadli’s portrait of Adut Akech for Chanel’s Resort 2020 campaign which was far more striking. This, falls short.

Don’t know why people like this, a generic photo of a generic (by today’s standards) model. Lighting is not good too, but the styling is nice, I admit.

More elaborate and skillful lighting mixed with a better model (Adut? Anok? Malika?) would have resulted in a far more striking cover.

'Better model' and 'Anok' in the same sentence? lol

Beautiful. In my opinion, I think it works because she's this exotic beauty with authentic skin complexion. If it was an ordinary looking model, it would most likely end up a bit flat.

Great to see Akon on a Vogue cover. However, the photo and their layout don't match. It's like I'm looking at a fan art.

Must say I'm kind of liking it, it would catch my attention at the newsstand immediately. Curious about the content now, and I wonder if a change in direction will be noticable after Arp's exit.

I had high hopes that they would get their art direction issues sorted with the new lead but it was probably naive to think that Christiane Arp was responsible. Also all these English words they use for their covers always bugged me.

The cover itself is a bit underwhelming for me. I don't mind the colours so much or the styling and the model choice is fine as well, but I think they should have kept this image for inside and chose one on which the model faces us. This tells me, FACE THE FUTURE oh but not you no no not looking at you. And I'm not looking excited for the future I see either.

Let's hope there will be some changes if not in this issue, maybe in the coming issues.

I think you got ‘Anok’ and ‘Akon’ mixed up :innocent:

I think it was a direct reply to dontbeadrag suggesting that Anok would have been a better cover choice, no?

Oops, I missed that comment (that’s what you get when you use the ignore button, silly me :ninja:). Now it makes sense. Thanks :flower:

Stunning! I wish she were facing the camera since it says “face the future”. Though I’d take this since it’s instructive.

I hate the art direction! Hate it. It seriously needs to be elevated.

I like and dislike it something about the texture and sheen they gave her skin that makes it look leathery.
