This is the type of Vogue Italia cover I keep wishing would happen again. Clean, glamorous, cinematic - but not overly manipulated, there's still the sense of a real person in that picture.
All these years later, I still love this cover - but it's also still a disappointment that there seems to be no directly connected fashion story inside.

We get a Meisel story, where they've tried to create continuity with the cover shot by using "evening" in the wording, but the two don't seem similar at all, as if the Karen Elson image was taken from a shoot which didn't see the light of day.
 
This cover suits way more for the PULP story from the July 2004 issue. Maybe it was made for that moment, and the actual December cover didn't work well, so Franca went back to this outtake. Just a theory :) But it wasn't the only time. Her first years as editor the covers and the main stories, most of them, aren't connected. Also I remember the Gemma Ward cover for May 2007 and seems It doesn't fit with the ed.
