Vogue Italia June 2008 : Linda Evangelista by Steven Meisel

Please someone point me to some place in this thread where there is a case of ageism? I dislike ageism as much as the next guy, but it's so irrelevant to this thread...

2 chinese actress editorials ^^

So happy that Maggie's is shot by Lindbergh - can't wait to see it! She is so photogenic.

Lucy Liu is average looking, nothing special style wise, and not a great actress from what I've seen - why is she in this?

Also looking forward to Emma Summerton's editorial with Anja.

Thanks for the review :flower: seems like a not bad issue ^_^

Cover is OK, but ed is beautiful ^_^ I'm looking forward to Anja's ed.

For all of you expecting scans, this is not your lucky day :flower: Unfortunately, I have no time to scan anything right now but I decided to snap the entire issue instead. I'm sure scans will follow soon, as the issue is out already.

Perhaps we could move discussion of this to its own separate thread? I think its a larger issue that is worthy of its own topic. On the whole I don't think anyone was outright blasting Linda for her age here but I do think that when the older models get covers / edits there is the frequent complaint that people are tired of them / would prefer to see someone new. Whether or not one reads such things as being a result of the models ages or their relative exposure level it depends. However given that Linda is arguably the most prominent over 40 model at the moment issues of age will undoubtedly come up.

I completely agree with you, I hate the current turnover rate of models. Besides Vogue Italia uses new faces on ninety percent of it's covers so one cover with an established icon is not going to hurt anyone. It must kinda suck to be a woman when everyone is obsessed with 13 year old, sullen looking little girls like Agnete or Masha or whatever other flavor of the month.
I agree 100%. I don't see how people have a problem with seeing an actual fashion icon like Linda Evangelista on the cover of VI, yet they don't have a problem with all these no-name flavors of the month. Do people outside of tFS and other fashion forums actually know who these Sashas, Tanyas, Laras, Marinas, and Megans are????? And more importantly, do you think any of these girls will actually be on the cover of VI when they're in their 40s, like Linda?

Anyway, I personally am not too fond of this cover or the editorial. The pictures are just ok, nothing remarkable. And like someone already mentioned, in some of the pictures, Linda looks reminiscent of Evita.

Ananbela looks amazing, I am not a huge Sorrenti fan, but my mind is slowly changing after his ed 'On Fire' in W and of course Mimi's E=MC2 album art . Also love Greg Lotus as a photographer, the beauty cover looks fierce, but not too much of a fan of the over-excessive nudity in the actual ed.

thanks for the snaps. The contents look okay.

The cover reminds me of one Linda did in 1991. For me, it's almost an update of a storyline... back then, she was the coquettish blonde looking to marry the man who owns the house, but he's since passed on, having left her everything in the will, and now the magazine comes back to find her as an assured fortysomething in complete control of her domain. All that conniving in the conservatory paid off in the end.

To promote Kung Fu Panda .

Maggie Cheung is one of my favourite (and one of the best) actresses in the WORLD right now (eat your heart out Kidman) buuuuut going by those snaps I'm a little underwhelmed. There's hope for the exterior shots but all the ones in the hotel rooms just like imitation Wong Kar Wai + Christopher Doyle. Which I can get by popping in a DVD. I'll wait for the scans before I make a final judgement.

As for the more off-topic "ageism" discussion I've kinda observed a weird contradiction in some fashionistas who supposedly want some from the new crop of models to be allowed to establish long careers and yet complain when girls get popular, in the eternal search for the fresh face.
