Vogue Paris August 2009 : Daria Werbowy by Inez Van Lamsweerde & Vinoodh Matadin

Because there is usually a loose theme to every issue of VP, I was reminiscing today what the possible motif may be for this particular issue. Judging by the head to toe designer styling in the main edit, the blatant Burberry referencing in the cover, and Iris's jewelry edit with the estimations as to how much she is wearing and the advertisement of each brand, I think it is plausible to say that this issue is mocking tacky Hollywood label-wh*re dressing. I'm probably over-thinking things though, because there is nothing in the least bit cheap about the main edit. It is very classic. But maybe they are showing how to correctly wear head to toe designer !

Nonetheless, I just love the main edit. Such a fabulous idea! I've been waiting for them to do something like this. A clear and concise organized edit of each designer's speciality pieces or looks. It seems that the editors at VP have been really paying attention to brand aesthetics and iconic, timeless styles as of late, and I really, really appreciate that. The anti-trend message they are sending is so great, especially in the rough times we are in now. And, with this main edit, they broadcast that classic does not AT ALL have to mean boring!

I think coming off of the whole "Viktor & Rolf complaining about the ridiculous speed of fashion" thing, I think this is a wise move on the part of the magazine. I don't think fashion has sped up that much, but it's still easy to feel like it's all rushed. I barely have time to appreciate the main collections before I'm bombarded with pre-season and resort shows.

I think, too, that with the appearance of several new talents (ones that will probably stick around), and with the restructuring of many design houses (and ways of showcasing the collections), it makes sense to sit us all down and say "this is who matters and this is why". Just my two cents. Now I just have to hunt down this "clear and concise" issue! ^_^

do i sense a healthy dose of irony in putting Lara Stone (in Blumarine) next to Anja Rubik (in Versace) in one spread? i know we aren't allowed to discuss this topic, but it really feels caricature-ish. haha

and a question here. how often does VP practice a multi-stylists editorials? one can easily tell Joe McKenna from Carine here. not sure about E.Alt - i'm not a great specialist in her work (though my money is on Daria's Isabel Marant shot).

In every shot the fashion editor who styled the outfit is credited.

I love these shots. I especially the b/w shots she looks like she stepped out of an Avedon ed.

wow daria looks GORGEOUS in the b/w burberry shot. interesting how clear it is that emmanuelle styled all of them - except for the michael kors one maybe, not so obvious...
thanks for posting, mikel. i'm loving how well done that ed is, they really captured each brand's spirit in a single shot, and made it in a simple but effective way.

Daria looks gorgeous in every one of her shots. The shot with Coke can reminds me of shoot she done with Terry Richardson.

When is the smal hq cover from the VOGUE PARIS website coming out!? Do they still update the cover archive?

I don't really like the cover, but I'm also not Daria's biggest fan. The issue itself sounds very promising though.

I love Isabeli's Sonia Rykiel and Rick Owens shots!

Hm, the makeup in the Sonia Rykiel shot looks a bit too heavy.

Isabeli's shots are quite funny and ironic.
I love it.
I know! She gives a lot of personality to this ed  Fantastic. I love the ODLR shot.
Raquel's part is also very good. I dunno September is going to be better than August :innocent: Last year the same thing happened, imo.
