Vogue Paris November 2004 : Kate Moss by Mario Testino

Kate looks fabulous, the cover's different... I quite like it.

Really? I think it's been much better since they've gone. Don't get me wrong, I love their work, I just don't think that French Vogue should be a laboratory for their ideas. It needed a more mainstream appeal. And let's face it, their work is rather esoteric and pretentious in its styles and references. Fabien Baron has been doing a better job but it's this ridiculous mix of styling (Nike and Gucci) by Carine that turns me off. French Vogue isn't selfservice or Purple and I don't think it should try for these artsy, off-center looks. I think it's a magazine that doesn't know its own identity.
