Vogue Singapore February 2021 : Yasmin Wijnaldum by Roe Ethridge

They did Yasmin so dirty, at least Moschino’s new campaign is a nice sight to the eyes. The background is disastrously busy paired with the photo placed above it and looks like an middle school cooking competitor’s attempt at plating. That makeup made her look like a corpse, too.... just unflattering all around, unfortunately, because it’s pretty evident by now I’m a fan of Yasmin’s

Just close this edition or hire a new EIC already. Singapore has so much potential to target legit HF customers, anyone who helms a Vogue edition there should’ve had much better taste than this. I found Kenneth Goh’s Singaporean Bazaar a lot more tasteful and that says a lot considering it used to be one of the prizes for Asia’s Next Top Model.

She's one of the prettiest models of today, but that photo doesn't do her any justice. The layout is also similar to some generic Summer editorials of Cosmopolitan around 2017. Very outdated.

We have a Farneti wannabe people!
Believe me, I bought the first issue of VS and is 10000 times better than the 90% of VI under Farneti. Of course this doesn't justify the fact that this cover is ugly.

Wow, this is so bad from the odd backdrop to Yasmin's 'sassy, attitude' pose while wearing the most clashing look, ever! They make Vogue HK look highbrow. I want to blame everything on Roe Ethridge because when has he ever shot a remotely decent Vogue cover? NEVER! But it's also on the EIC for actually running this.

I've leafed through one of digital their issues and it looks terrible imo. The fashion, the quality fo the written content, even the art direction is not Vogue-level. You'd find better-designed magazines on Issuu and that platform mainly post content by design students and amateurs. I don't know how Norman Tan is getting this so wrong because he used to run a well-oiled machine at Esquire. Maybe it's the Farneti effect. They're just better off editing men's magazines.

I just don’t understand how it’s possible to produce such mediocre and visually offensive covers. Honestly, I’m baffled by this. Do people not have eyes? Does no one question the quality?

Yasmeen is clearly need that Meisel touch because she has the same energy as Kendall Jenner in everything that I have seen her.

Bad cover overall, nothing works. The pose, the expression (or lack of), the background looks like your local photo shop at best. At least the layout is nice. Last thing this cover need is suffocating amount of text.

The comments on Instagram are of course to be expected, all fawning. Not a single constructive critique.
This is why Instagram feedback can never be used to measure how good or a bad a cover looks.

We should be glad this forum is still alive because I'd probably be banned from all the Vogue pages by now if I posted on IG.

I rarely comment on fashion because I feel like I know too little about it to do so but even I can see that Zara manages to make their crappy clothes look more desirable than what we are presented with here. What is up with the lighting on her, what is that expression?

I agree, she has never really been good in print and she has been given more than enough opportunities to improve. I had hopes for her, because she is undeniably beautiful and has a look we had not seen in a long time but as good as she is on the runway and as charming as she seems, she really has no clue what she is doing most of the time, sorry to say that. Maybe she should stick to Kardashian-like sexy instaposting and become an influencer...

Al in all, I think the collage is actually the most decent element of the cover.

I don't see the link between the cover and the actual theme for it (human connection, physical and emotional). I like Yasmin but it's true that her modeling skills are quite limited. Her Vogue Japan cover was pretty good last year. But yeah, some girls know how to pose on their feed but can't quite pull it off on a Vogue cover. It's the whole thing of being versatile. Anyway, this one is unworthy of a cover at all, let alone be it Vogue. Her expression is just off and the styling isn't something I'd associate with Vogue, ever. Pass!

So true! We'd all be banned :magic: So thankful we can express our feelings here since constructive critics isn't something we'd see on social media.

Vogue Paris blocked me on IG. I don’t remember when and which issue... Haha...
