W Magazine Volume #4 2025 : Lana Del Rey, Zoë Kravitz & Julia Garner by Steven Meisel

The grey background still kills me but the new shots are more dynamic.

Not everyone acting like this is their first introduction to Photoshop lmao

She doesn't look weird, she looks perfect. Which is kind of the point, no? It's not the sort of editorial that is supposed to capture a raw side to Lana and Meisel is not a photographer who pretends to capture the reality in his fashion images. It's an outlet, a vision of perfection in glamour and fashion. She's very static and the hair is very sculptural, it is nowhere nearly as shocking as people make it out to be.

The new set of covers is fantastic! Can't wait to see more.

Wish they had just stuck with Lana's cover, the composition of the shot and styling at least make it look elevated.

I'm really not into that showgirl look of Julia's cover, one that's so mimicked by Drag Race contestants. Zoe's is alright, but a bit forgettable. Both the latter covers are too reminiscent of Enninful's UK Vogue covers and in this case I don't really mean that as a compliment.

I love Lana, love a good portion of Meisel's work, but this photo is weird.

And it's not like her mug is so brick that even Pat McGrath couldn't make it unclockable tea. It's just something off about the Photoshop, the styling, or something.

Idk what’s the point and that lying down shot is a choice. The BW pics are usually my favorite but he removes all detail now that they look like some OC real housewives IG photos. They aren’t terrible but for someone known as the “master” it’s blah. If you are at the point that you’re just regurgitating old hits but not even well enough that they cheapen your overall body of work time to pull back. I also feel that had he had models this would definitely been 100000x better. His best celeb work was with those that he had personal connections to, it’s very obvious he may like these people’s looks but he isn’t connecting with them at all.

The Zoë Kravitz feature feels like an extension of her British Vogue story by Meisel from 2019, and I’m not complaining. I love the cover shot - from the styling to the composition. It’s all just so flawless and utterly immaculate.

Is the digital edition out? It is September already.

W's publishing schedule is odd. They keep some issues on newsstands for months. However, despite it being their fashion issue and the biggest of the year, their "Volume 4" issue usually hits newsstands sometime in September, only to be replaced sometimes less than a full month later with Volume 5.
