Wearing Blazers with Hoods

If it's like a corduroy blazer, or some other casual fabric.
If it's a jacket that's an actual part of a business suit, the contrast is too stark and it has a trying-too-hard look...

When i first read the title of this thread I was like 'What??'. After going through the thread I am really impressed with the way it can be worked. You don't have to look like a big scally layering tracksuits and bomber jackets. Keep it all properly layered and it works really well.

I like the way it's not something that will ever become standard, as you definitely need an inate sense of style to work this look. It keeps it edgy.

oh wait i think i saw an AD or maybe a thousand wearing this in 2002. it looks bad baaaaaaad :innocent:

on Canal+ right now... Mika (singer of the "tubes" Relax and Grace Kelly) is wearing a red blazer, white hoody, blue&white stripes shiRt worn opened on a white tshirt...
i wore this look twice or third this summer... (my blazer is darkblue!)

i used to do this about 4 years ago...it's way too overdone, it's definitely not the only way of keeping warm in winter either.

What? Blazers have hoods? Since when?! Hah, I've never seen that before. It sounds okay I suppose..

^no you wear a hoodedsweat under your blazer... lol
but maybe you're right actually.... the tittle says blazer with hoods... i did understand it : as a blazer worn on a hoodedsweat... oh god i'm lost...

This is soooooo ugly, I remember they even did blazers with sewn in hoodies.. it's discusting and looks really chavy.

I was watching beauty and the geek the other day (for curiosity) and one of the guys does a makeover and picks a hoody and leather jacket for himself. I thought to myself, that's like wearing two jackets, i don't understand. That's like trying to wear jock and rebel at the same time. And the girl at the store suggests not pairing them, 'cause it looks over-done. He went with it anyway, and I couldn't help but agree with the girl, something looked just too trying-too-hard about it.

BUT...

Sometimes I do like the pairing. Depends on the pieces I guess.

No question of in or out (won't debate on it again...) but can hoodies be considered as chic, or even as "correct" clothing? I mean... I have seen tons of people wearing them in paris - chic people in fact (mainly with blazers in fact) but where I live nobody would wear them because it has a very strong connotation (let's be polite and say "chavs"). Although I agree the people I was talking above were ok in hoodies, I'm always quite surprised. Maybe the connotation only concerns my location. But it's a strong one. And absolutely nobody would be considered as chic - rather quite rude - in hoodies, and most of the "chic" clubs/bars have a "no hoodies" policy (as well as "no sweatpants" for example).

Chiming in with everyone--this has been around for ages! I don't think it looks "trying too hard" if the weather is variable/cold. I agree if the blazer is very tailored/business suitlike, it might seem peculiar. And if it's combined with an awful pose and misterioso sunglasses, well, ugh, yeah--that's trying to hard. But if the look is slouchy and the weather cold, it appears effortless enough to me, though not particularly "fashionable".

:lol::lol:... I wonder where you live...:innocent:
imo, it's to make the blazer looks casual (well i do it to make the blazer looks more casual)... i ab. don't care if it's trendy or not... i like it. and I know about this no hoodie policy... it's because it's linked to the "racaille" and bad "banlieues" do you know how we say "racaille"?
but i can say @ Plaza Athénée they don't care... and Plaza is pretty chic... but maybe that's because they are polite with their clients (don't get me wrong i'm not a regular client...) it's like the derby is a casual version of the richelieu...

Precisely! I think in some chic places like the Plaza (or Four Seasons/etc, same galore) they are intelligent enough not to have a stupid stric policy: they look at the whole outfit... Ayway I don't believe this is the case for some clubs (do you think you can enter into The Cab with a hoodie?)
Anyway in the French Riviera (where I live :D ) they sometimes really have that kind of policy (won't blame them concerning sweatpants...).
Maybe a different question concerning sneakers. They are absolutely not considered as chic but I'm pretty sure you can enter anywhere with them.
Oh and yes, I was talking about the "racaille" connotation, which seems to me stronger in the south of France B)

^yes you can go into le cab with a hoodie... theyd don't care if you're with the good person.

you live in South of France? I do my study on the other coast of Riviera... you're on east coast, i study on west coast...

oops no personal conversation...

even though 'it's been done' seasons ago in London (or LA or NY or wherever), it is possible to have a 'revival' at the moment somewhere else eg. Paris or Berlin... in genral, i understand people not liking this but i dont get the pseudo-snob attitude (this IS the global village, give people a chance)

personally i see this as a 'strictly' male trend and i dont mind seeing this around
It's not for everyone but some guys can look cute wearing their zip hoods under jackets
i've even seen blazers sold with 'attached' hoods, they seem quite popular with very young boys who would never ever wear a 'normal' blazer in their life, so yes, whatever rocks their boat, it's fine with me

peace
