SOUTH FLORIDA SUN-SENTINEL

Wearing all white from head to toe has made the leap from runway to reality.
In past seasons, the look lit up the catwalks but somehow got "diversified" when it hit the streets: a splash of color here and there. White got watered down.

Not this summer. Maybe it's the Miami Heat playoff crowd sporting all white to support its white-haute basketball team. Whatever the spark, it seems this summer hipsters are going for a blanc slate.
"First of all, it's such a flattering color if you're tan," said Eadie Kelley, director of merchandising for International Male and Undergear. "And color and fashion are very psychological. White is a sign of purity and cleanliness. Maybe with all the tumult going on, everyone wants to be in a fresh and more peaceful color."
Designers and retailers insist that white's cousins -- beige, cream, oyster, eggshell, bone and ivory -- are strong for this fall and even for summer 2007.
White is very unforgiving, and not everyone can pull it off.

I like this direction a lot, much more insightful in terms of designing from the perspective of body form, rather than embellishing to the max in order to communicate something. Some designers are creating very pretty looks in a simple way without overshadowing the body inside AND some designers are cleverly manipulating the body, all in glorious shades of white. All in all, what I am happiest about is keeping it clean all the way around (hair incl.) Pretty much in love with white patent shoes as well...

I love the white trend ; everyone tells me that white is my color. It compliments my skin tone & hair. I don't like wearing it head to toe though, I'll wear a white top & maybe jeans or black pants with white shoes. I just need a white bag now....my poor credit card.

I don't really like bright white - it's too dazzling. I prefer off-white erring to cream.

i've always disliked whole white outfits and bright white as colour, so not fan of this style. i do add pieces of white to my outfits but in small amounts.

Same here. And also, an all-white look (of plain t-shirts and cotton capris) is not at all flattering to any body type, whether skinny or fat.

But I love the crispiness of an immaculate white shirt or Tshirts against tanned skin ( combined with other colours).

I've not posted here for a while - nice to be back :flower:

I really like the white trend  - also nice mixed up with another colour - not just all white.

As other people have said, yes, you have to know whether or not it suits you. Personally, I think it suits taller people - I think they carry it off better for some reason.

It's also really refreshing to see so many colourful clothes in the shops - makes such a difference from grey, black etc.

The dead white is not for my coloring, but I do like ivory. This season I'm wearing it mixed with other colors, as I have for awhile. I'm interested in carrying it into fall in a bigger way, but I will still have touches of other color, probably red ... (as mentioned in my now-gutted red and pink thread :()

I think white looks best as one of the main "colors", but not as the whole outfit. The other disadvantage to something "all white" is not being able to do anything in it without it getting visibly dirty quickly.

I've noticed that white is even happening for guys which it normally doesn't. I've mostly seen it in the jean scene, i think that people are just wanting to get away from the ubiquitus skinny jean scene.

In search of the perfect white pants

I'm wondering if anyone could share tips on how to find the perfect white pants. It's a refreshing look and goes well with the nautical theme this summer. Plus, it looks great with a tan. But isn't there the old myth that wearing white pants make you appear larger than you really are? So, what are some things to look for when buying white pants: the fabric, length, details?

I specially like white in summer, because it matches slightly tanned skin better I think. I can't wear white in winter because I'm blonde and dead pale so I end up looking a bit faded. x

I love white for the summer, people just look crisp and clean like they smell good (even though they may not) it just gives off a look of cleanliness.

softie.... !

I'm loving white - nice and clean - but for me the big decider is the fabric that I wear as opposed to the bright or off white. Am loving white cotton for shirts and dresses, esp. sundresses,
