Yes, I would but God isn't person and I find it hard to believe that the ultimate being is bothered about my dress or even my respect for him (it).

Jesus was rarely bothered about appearances or manners - he generally cared more about how rich you are.

Jesus never cared about how rich you are.
Jesus never cared if you are wearing a $10 or $1000 outfit as long as it is decent.

I spoke to a pastor regarding this quote:
he told me that it referred to the doorway of the gates to a city. these doorways were meant for people, and were generally rather small. in that sense, it was very difficult for camels to get through.

I strongly believe that Jesus did not mean that it was impossible for wealthy men to enter heaven. I do believe though, that this verse was conveying the message that if one were to be rich, they should share that blessing with others around them.

Yeah I was giving a example..I understand that some religions it is different. Where I go I don't have to be formal or be totally covered. I'm only formal on special religious holidays, but only cuz I choose to be.

I'm not sure how your religion is, but lets say I went to your type of church one day and your rules are different then I'd totally wear whats proper for your religious group. I think it's only proper if you are a visitor in another's place.

Actually I wore the Jesus is my homeboy shirt once at church on a monday youth night ....

It's all teens that night and a diff pastor than the rest of the days....

He actually thought it was funny and asked where he could get one too!


I don't thnk he'd be happy with the hide the p*rn one though...

that quote means thatits harder for a rich man to go to heaven. many rich men (@ leastof the time) got their money through some illegal means. others hav businesses and cant think of the fact that they have to respectthe sabbath and cant work on the sabbath day. I personally believe that everyone needs religion at least it stops you from going a certain way since you have to think about sin

I think decency is a must - you're there to pray, and so are your community members. If your dressed indecently, your going to be distracting, and make it hard for everyone to concentrate.

So i mean, jeans and a T shirt is fine, and so are pumps and a church girl power suit - but i wouldn't go to church in a tube top and a mini

that is exactly what it meant. it was simply stating that with God all things are possible, but for and unsaved wealthy person, it is nearly impossible for them to go to heaven.

At my church it's very casual-slippers and pajamas are seen on occasion, sweats are common also. I have worn sweatshirts to church before but it's not something that matters all that much. For nicer things-Palm Sunday, Easter, Christmas Eve-yeah, dressing up is nicer. I have gotten complaints in the past in dressing a little too skimpy, but now I've figured out how to be able to be a little more conservative but not too much so. I have worn shorts that are the jean shorts I usually wear-not bermudas or anything ugly like that but nothing that shows the butt. They're looser and a bit longer than the average shorts. For a shirt, I can wear a tank top but as long as it doesn't show very much in the cleavage department and doesn't show my midriff. The best bet, for me, is a basic men's white tank top that you can get in the underwear department and then layering with it. There are girls who wear skirts that are halfway between the knee and the butt, but I feel that skirts should at the shortest be 3" above the knee.

I have, however, worn halter tops (but not my super-skimpy ones) at a church that I went to during summer evenings a couple years ago. Big faux-pas.

i'm roman catholic, and honestly, i know that the vatican itself has a rule that you must be covered up everywhere before you go in, but that's the church rules, not the religion's rules. i see people enter our local church in everything from tattered punk-goth getups to short skirts and tank tops with heels, to formal skirt and jacket suits.
honestly, i could care less about what people wear to church. i'm just happy they go. i wear whatever i was wearing that day to church. i don't think about it. if you're too distracted by someone's outfit to pay attention to mass, then maybe you should get off your high horse and stop judging. why else would someone's outfit distract you? i don't think god is judging you if you truly care about mass and are there for him. catholic mass is meant to bring people from all walks of life together as one community. therefore i think it should be fine to dress however you are comfortable when going to church.

I honestly wish that there were more people like you out there. I went to a Younglife (it's a Christian youth group that is non-denominational and unofficially with the schools-meaning that they can't advertise) camp a couple summers ago and believe me, a lot of people were wearing short skirts and skimpy tops. I had somewhat skimpy tops and Soffe shorts, but nothing too revealing. Yet part of the reason why I am banned from anything YL for life is because I was said to be too promiscuous. And besides, it's not like it's a church-all-the-time. It has an hour-long church service of sorts but people said that I was too promiscuous when there were people wearing less than me.

Sometimes I wish that rules would be drawn out for things like that but as well as at church. I have to agree though that if people are distracted by my fashions, then they obviously live very boring lives.

I rarely go to church....not out of "rebellion" or any of that crap, I just don't have the time...

But when I do go to church, it's usually pastels or nice khaki skirts for me and a sweater set or something like that...

It's embarassing to see girls in church wearing low-cut or tight outfits...I mean, seriously, who are they trying to impress? The 80 year-old grannies or the balding, overweight married men with three kids attached to them?

Banned for life? For clothing? They couldn't speak to you respectfully and discuss the issue with you? Doesn't sound like they were concerned so much with you but with themselves and their perception of you. Sorry to hear that.

My hubby and I are developing a camp on a reservation for kids that are in households affected by drugs, alcohol, poverty etc. I'd worry more about the kid than the clothing IMO. Silly to say you're concerned with someone's soul if you are busy judging their clothing and outward appearance.

My husband is a pastor too, we wear jeans and t-shirts to church. People live in poverty here and that's what they wear. I'm glad to see them no matter what they wear. Jesus said for us to be fishers of men, He never told us it was our job to 'clean' them up; just catch them. Cleaning is His job. It's not my job to judge. Anyway, interesting thread!
