What to wear to a job interview

I just got an interview on Wednesday with a fashion stylist for an internship. And I wanted to know how I should dress for the interview? The application said casual and the job description is as follows: "An interest in fashion and styling. Must be articulate, polite, well dressed, well mannered, can think on your feet and multitask." He's seems to be very trendy and works for some pretty big designers. I feel like I should dress nice. How trendy should I be?

p.s. sorry I have posted this in multiple threads. The fashion business forum seemed like a good place to post as well.

Perhaps in this case you should be as trendy as you actually are ... IOW, be authentic. You're not meant to be the star here, so it might be good to keep your look a bit on the low-key side.

I have an interview at a clothing shop tomorrow... simply as a sales associate... it's a boutique that carries a bit of this and a bit of that... some designer jeans, lingerie, little gifts and whatnot... any suggestions on appropriate interview attire?

Ah, yes, and it will be raining.

I've read that dark jeans and a nice shirt could be appropriate, but I'm scared to go so casual...

Also, I don't own tights, nor do I own a dress that would be appropriate for rainy weather in the 50s...

Any advice would be much appreciated.

^ It sounds like you won't be comfortable in jeans ... what about some nice dress slacks and an interesting cardigan?

if i plan on wearing a knee length skirt to a business job interview...should i wear it with nude panty hose or is going bare legged ok? help please! thanks!!

I'd wear hose. If it's a field that is still very conservative (like a legal office), not wearing hose might count against you. If it's a more laid back office, they won't care either way, so it's better to be safe than sorry. :flower:

Ok I have an interview for a receptionist position at a hair salon. I have no idea what to wear! Help.

^ Go for something quite conservative - but still trendy/something that is "you"! I would maybe wear black pantyhose, black skirt, black blazer and maybe a floral top, somthing with a powder on it - or a ruffle top. And shoes witch compliments the shirt/top :flower: then you give the impression of having a personal style but still manage to keep that strict receptionist-look!

I assume you've checked out the salon ... it seems like a lot of salons like people to dress very trendy, so if it's one of those, I'd take that into consideration. Something graphic & sharp might be appropriate. Some also have a color dress code that you'd need to bear in mind ... My stylist is a Toni & Guy alum & owns his own salon now ... it appears to me they've kept pretty close to the T&G color code

I have a 2 hour :o interview on Wednesday for a promotion,so my job is not on the line, phew. I want to look smart but also keep my whole look pretty fresh and young. I purchased a pair of navy high waisted trousers with gold buttons from Topshop today because I think they fit the description of what I want quite well, but I have no idea what top to wear with it. Any ideas?

^ Crisp white shirt, maybe a little oversize?

What's the overall environment like? Could you do just a shirt and big scarf or perhaps some bold jewelry? Do you have a jacket that would work with the pants?

I was thinking about wearing a navy silk scarf and black heels. But yes to a slightly oversized white shirt,I'm off to town now to look for one  I don't think my employers are expecting me to be too formal,a large part of the interview is just to learn more about me and whoI am so I can express myself I think through some bracelets or something.

Sadly things went a little pearshaped this morning from my employer and I ended up looking nothing like I wanted to! I wore the high waisted trousers but ended up pairing it with a 3/4 length sleeve black leotard and belt with black shoes, all of which is a lot nice than it sounds! It was smart without being too much, and one of the interviewers complimented me when I arrived for looking smart, yay!

I have an audition for a Forever 21 job any tips on what to wear would be great  and its the first shop opening in my country so wearing their clothes isn't really an option :P

I have an interview with the shop GHOST on Friday and I have absolutely no idea what to wear! Also it's my first job interview!

Hi! I have an interview today with a fashion magazine, what should I wear? Dress, skirt, pants?

It is kinda funny that everytime I have been in work interview I have had ****ty day, I was 1 hour late or cried all day long I still managed to get that job I was looking for
I can admit that those days weren´t the best days, the way I looked or dressed BUT it was the personality I have.
So, I allways wonder why people are obsessed the way they dress in work interview, just be the way you are.
OFCOURSE you have to look clean and smell fresh but it is the personality that counts.

Oh, how I hate job interviews.
:angry::lol:
