When Public Feedback Goes Wrong

i get stares all the time but i honestly never pay any attention, let them stare until their eyes fall down.. i dont care at all.
actually i mismatch on purpose, i try always 'not to fit in' no matter where i go, i like to surprise people and never anyone said a nasty thing to me about the way i look.

confidence makes all the difference and please pay no attentionand if they say anything just be quick and clever in replying and attack with humour. :P
I share your point of view and attitude, Lena. Confidence is key! I don't really care what anyone thinks either.

sometimes people stare at me when im on the tube
i kinda like it though......it makes me wonder what people are thinking

when people are dressed really bad im always like 'oh good lord what the hell' especially fat people who's wardrobe is limited to big skirts and floral blouses  ...........im officially a circle human- free zone

i was one of the first people to wear legwarmers in this town, let alone in the school. i got these really cute rainbow coloured once and paired them up with a plaited skirt.
i got comments like 'why are you wearing weird crumpled socks?' and such.
and, dum dum dum, 7 months later the whole school is walking around in legwarmers.
:innocent:
i do take it personally, because im a really sensitive person in that way. but if i like it, i just say 'heh, thanks for your opinion, but i like it, and i won't wear something different.' or i just laugh it off.

my mum gets the stare all the time. i mean, i'm into fashion, but i get simplified versions of things, from zara, mango, miss sixty.
my mum is into the high fashion thing, dior, dolce and gabbana, richmond, burberry, valentino and such. so when she wears something pretty much out of vogue, (or close) everyone just gives her the weirdest look. ive always admired her because she has never been bothered by it.

when people realise you are above it, and undisturbed by it, and if you feel and look confident, then they will stop giving you the stare and saying such idiotic coments.
after all, at least weall know that you're a fashionista :flower:

(P.S ; i want ribboned shoes!!!! i don't know where to get em, though..)

I'm with y'all on the whole thing. Where I live, on the MS Gulf Coast- it's a good thing to be put together in the latest trend! I mean, sometimes wearing the soffees and t-shirts are more about comfy, but here it's all about dressing up. Although, I do have a john deere hat... tee hee.. how much fun would that be to wear with a dress?

(regardless that i have a soft point against stilletos)
you need to show compassion to those little brics in the wall dear socalledprep,
uniformity is so sad and people need badly to 'belong'

they also need badly someone to point this finger out screaming "shes different, how dare she has the guts ewwww"
by dressing up 'out of the norm' we are always reminding people they TOO could have a chance and this makes them MAD, because it brings out their own pathetic uniformity / comformity :P
this is so well said and the TRUTH... ist usually people who WISH they could also dare but dont

Heh--I've had this going on since I was about 14 (I'm almost 27) By now, I just revel in it.

I love the feeling of walking into a room and knowing nobody else there will be wearing the same outfit. I wear this crazy mix of vintage, home-made, and recent hand-me-downs so my look is inimitable.

When I was a teenager, I was insulted when girls in my school would act grossed out because I wore clothes from thrift shops or told me my outfits were so loud I should hand out earplugs as a public service (claws! out!). Now, however, if somebody calls me Pippi because I am wearing crazy stockings or asks me which way to the disco because I am wearing 1970s vintage, I will just make some wiseass crack back. I ham it up, do a little disco move, act campy and call people "daaah-ling," ect.

I figure I dress oddly because I like it. I like bizarre clothes, and I generally like the attention. If I am not feeling up to dealing with inane quips and idiocy from the general public, I will wear something boring, but most of the time, I need some good reason to fire off my mouth, so if somebody wants to say something dumb about my clothes, then I have a good excuse to whip out my old standby: "Who died and made you Joan Rivers?"

excellent attitude, my dear... :flower:

I live in Toronto. This city isn't the most famous place for its fashion. Many people like to have this *comfortable and relaxed country* look. It's so annoying especially in HS, but I've learned to ignore it. I figured most of the STARES come from jealous people so it's ok

"the stare"
I get it all the time ... sometimes it's just me .. or the people I hang out with ... with children I'm understanding, and don't say a word ... but when I'm out I don't forgive catty "adults" ... most of my friends are used to it, but depending on the mood, I might just reply to one of their nasty comments with a sharp one. My friends -especially- loooove it.
The awful thing's how people give you that confused stare and within a couple of weeks wear your exact same outfit.

PS. Franco ...

Good one. I'll have to remember that. :woot:

The best part of it all is knowing inside yourself that elsewhere in the world, there are people who would appreciate what you are wearing. TFS has helped me see that and that's some of why I love it so much. :flower:

I get stares ALL the time. Sometimes I feel like I am overdressed everywhere I go - but I'm not trying to steal the thunder, its just me!

Most of the stares come from snobby insecure teenagers in my experience
I'm the exact same way (always "overdressed") and it's always the copycat teens -a group of girls all dressed identically in TNA, jeans or whatever the current teenage must-have trend is- giving me the stares. Sorry I don't like to look exactly like you. And TheSoCalledPrep, I get the elf comments on my pointy shoes too!! I remember last year, before the silk cargo-style pants came into style and everyone and their dog wore a pair, I wore a pair for my birthday and I kept getting "are you read to jump out of a plane in your parachute pants?" comments..a few monthes later everyone here was wearing them!! :innocent:

As they say, it's better to be hated for who you are than loved for who you're not.

Glance or stares have never bothered me, to me dressing is as good a way as any to express yourself and so I must assume all the clones have nothing of their own to say.

my HS experience was very similar---it use to make me SO mad...and it doesn't really stop after school either...don't forget...my'parachute' comment was from a 40 yr old

i finally realized that it just means that you're getting it right ....and whether they want to admit it or not...the people copying you know it too...

i loved lena's comment-'let them stare until their eyes fall out'...great attitude :flower:
and i agree with strawberry daquiri

:flower:

looking good is the best revenge....who said that....?

My god. the stare, or the glare, depending on the person. I live in hawaii, where no one wears anything but flip flops and jean cut offs everyday of the year. haha when I walk about in my outfits, I always get odd looks, or people asking me where in the hell I got what I am wearing. I laugh gaily, and tell them its an up and coming designer and to be looking for them in stores soon.

i feel so vindified when what I am wearing people think is odd, then a year or so later they are wearing the exact same thing.

i like to remind my friends of that every so often, they dont make fun of my fashion sense anymore now.

i love the stare.

when i get it, i know i'm doing something right ;-)

:flower: I know, as much as I complain about it, I would never want people to stop staring and commenting. Stupid, I know.. But I am a person that thrives on attention, spotlight, showing off.. It exhilarates me. :innocent:

I live in a really really small town, and fashion takes a long time to get to the people around here.

For example, I wore this really cute olive green silk guess chinese-inspired dress with pants underneath and pink pointy-toed pumps.

Needles to say I got MANY stares from the people in my high school. People around here are still wearing overalls and "vintage" shirts that sport annoying words like, "Cutie" or "Brat." "High Fashion" at my high school consists of girls bedecked in Abercrombie apparel.

To them I bet I looked like some kind of foreigner. I got a lot of questions like, "Did you wear pants underneath because your skirt was too short?" The idea that I wore the pants underneath for a reason puzzled them.
