Whitney Port

^love the color on her, her hair and the shoes..with a belt on the waist to define more her figure it would have been even better ^_^

She looks tired and worn out. Whitney used to have this fresh-faced and naturally beautiful vibe going for her and now everything she's done lately has been desperate and too try-hard, imo.

This is actually a nice outfit, and her hair looks good too. But I agree about the wrong make up

The fit of her dress is all wrong for the shoes. Otherwise its a beautiful color on her.

Whitney Port out in Beverly Hills - January 7, 2011 (tlfan.to).

I think the dress needs a bit more length maybe and the belt that was mentioned before. Nice colour on her though. She is such a hit and miss though. I admire the girl for experimenting though.

I was watching Season One of The City, and I was wondering if she was told what to wear on the show back when- I mean, NY isn't LA, but there is no resemblance to her former (more polished) look- she seems more and more like the high school kids at the mall...Strange...

An excerpt from Whitney's interview with The Nyla Report

So, even though you knew you wanted to be a designer, you got your degree in Gender Studies from USC. What was the reasoning behind that?

Well, I think…well, that’s a really good question. I think that what you study in college doesn’t have to be what you do for a career. I guess I just thought I would get a life skills kind of background and then I would be able to teach myself of the things in the fashion world.

That makes no sense to me.

Yeah, I think she did get told what to wear (that and how her hair was styled as well) it never really matched up to her off camera outfits

"I think that what you study in college doesn’t have to be what you do for a career."

True- but kids who invest years in design school have a lot more to offer in the fashion industry- a business that, to some extent, calls for some technical knowledge and not just 'I see what my friends wear' like Whitney said... We had a couple of young ladies folding sweaters at the Polo Store who had degrees in textile design and fashion merchandising; I don't think Whitney understands the concept of paying your dues and working your way up the ladder....

Whitney doesn't seem to understand the concept of many things. You'd think her time in college would have provided her some structure and guidance to focus on something and not try and do things on a whim. That girl is so random and all over the place.

Whitney is no different from any of the starlets who decides to design a line in order to capitalize on their fame. I wish some people would be more consistent in their views. I mean what is the difference between Whitney, Lauren and Olivia... neither one took the time to attend school and obtain the design skills to properly build a line. At least Whitney had tons of internships outside of reality tv (W magazine, Teen Vogue, etc...) and she was an art major before she transferred to USC.

^ That's a fair point... but at least the others you mentioned look wonderful most of the time; the jury is still out on Whitney... ;)

The difference is that Lauren did actually go to school. She attended the Academy of Art and was a merchandising major at FIDM --granted she didn't finish-- but to me enrolling in fashion school shows shows a serious interest in the profession. Plus she had internships with places like Three Dots and worked in retail stores and showrooms before The Hills and Teen Vogue put her on the map fashionwise. Nothing about her suggests that she only decided to get a fashion line because she was famous. She used her fame to reach a goal she was already working towards before MTV came along.

I'm sorry but no one whose goal is to start a fashion line majors in Gender Studies. Whitney's internship at WWD was probably related to her gender studies degree. She's never mentioned having an actual job in retail or anything fashion-related other than that internship. I don't think she had any intention of starting a fashion line until she got famous on The Hills. Even her "friend" Roxy called her out saying she was surprised Whitney went into fashion since Whitney had no interest in fashion in high school.

That said, I can't blame Whitney for taking advantage of her fame and parent's money to start a line. It beats trying to figure out what to do with that Gender Studies degree.

As for Olivia....she dresses nicely. I have no idea what experience she has in fashion beyond that.

^ Well Olivia did take courses at Parsons for a while, and she 'studied in Paris' at one time but I have never seen the details...
All of that being said- If I were a woman I would be much more interested in a product that someone who presents themselves like Olivia was involved with than someone like Whitney, who has had few outfits that I found impressive, and even when she was 'designing her line' on The City wasn't about to set the world on fire; Kelly and the women from Elle basically ripped her to shreads....Just my opinion...;)

I was basing my opinion without putting whitney in the same category as Lauren or Olivia. Both of those girls are doing stuff on their own and seem to be running a steady foresight into the future. Whitney seems to do whatever offer comes her way and doesn't seem to bother putting in the hard work that comes along with it. For a person who has earned a degree and seemed very professional on tv (during the hills) she has yet to capitalise on even one venture. She needs to decide whether she just wants to be in the spotlight for fame alone or success. Not saying she can't have both but imo, she's yet to accomplish one.

^ Good point- it seems like a lot of reality show people get used to the celebrity and attention and have a very tough transition to normal life afterwards...Other than American Idol or the Kardashians maybe, almost none of them are still in the spotlight...where are the Gotti Boys and the Gastineau Girls anyway... But I agree with you that Whitney needs direction and a game plan, I don't even know if she knows what she would like to be doing in a year or two...
