why do you like/ hate marc jacobs?

 I think his namesake label does do a lot of coping but at LV he has a little more progression. At least when you look at the F/W 06 for male. The material and shapes I thought were a new direction.
Right now I see a lot of people going back at the more mainstream labels.
Maybe we see no progression because it is a corporation at the end of the day. He has to bring in the money. And the money is in the retrospective collections he puts out.:innocent:

We can't count the menswear, he doesnt design it. He just shows up the day of the show, get's a little note card featuring design notes (in case anyone asks), walks out on the runway to take credit.

Of course money is why they're in business. It's strange really. Take Chanel and Louis Vuitton; they both slap thier monogram on everything, they both use celebrities, they both show horrid RTW shows, yet Chanel has more cache in thier little boucle camellia than LV has in thier entire archive. When I walk into LV there are people wandering looking around, planning to buy nothing, when I walk into Chanel there are people wandering looking for something to buy...

How does Chanel cause people to behave in that manner? I dont have the time to get into it now but I will continue this...

All of Marc Jacob's stuff is utterly boring and really rather depressing, too ordinary. I wish hed spice his stuff up a bit. Im not saying hes useless, I like some of the LV outfits they look pretty neat, but most of the clothes he puts on the runways are simply too boring. Louis Vuitton bags are far too abused now i think, I mean there are so many people with fake LV bags that its losing its quality, which is really disappointing to me even though Ive never had an LV bag.

I actually kind of forgot what I was going to say...haha...

Ill try to remember...

I think Marc Jacobs is a great designer, but yes some of his simple designs are overpirced, making me feel like it just a normal tshirt with some prints on it and nothing else but his name justifying the big price tag. But with his collaboration with LV, it allowed him to buil his name and I guess he worked his way up real hard, getting him where he is right now. So now with his name and fame, he can get others (no doubt meticulously picked) to incorporate what he feels suitable to represent his label. That could be why he has less involvement in his mens line also because he feels more comfortableand passionate about womens fashion? But to some degree yeah I do feel the degree of involvement in something when it will bear your name, should be to the maximum. Ahhh I dont know I'm 50-50 on this... =P

i hate what marc jacobs does for his own line. and i think he gets to much hype for something that isn't really that great. he's like a betsey johnson. he appeals to the teenage consumer who are trying to identify themselves as being "different, and unique" yet in reality they're just trying to hard.

however I will say that his stuff for louis vuitton is amazing. the womenswear collection is always great, although i really hate that it's associated with the brand and name louis vuitton.

I like him because he created a great line of casual chic. He designs things that are cool with a quirky edge, in other words some of the things would normally look very blah, boring, plain and preppy, and he takes something normal like that, like a cardigan, and makes it quirky with odd buttons or ribboning, etc. I, however, am not always a fan of head to toe MJ. A few years ago when it was new and oh Marc Jacobs! Next big thing! It was interesting and fun back then, but he hasn't really revitalized any looks, its the same types of things over and over with maybe one difference here or there.

Don't know what to think of LV. I feel like he boxes himself in in a way. He tries to be this deisgner that he's not...he tries to hard to make something interesting, when it should just flow naturally. When I see some of his designs they just look like he tried to hard.

I suspect you're just not a Marc Jacobs girl ...

Speaking of which, I was in Nordstrom's yesterday, and ran into the perfume dept on my way out. I said I had used the last of my Chanel Gardenia, and wanted something else floral--did they have Michael Kors? She immediately took me to the Marc Jacobs shelf :D and said he has gardenia in these two ... the one in the yellow bottle (name? ) did have a nice gardenia component to it, but unfortunately it also has very strong green notes, on me anyway, which I cannot stand ... but I wondered if she pegged me as an MJ girl even though I wasn't wearing any at the time :D

I agree. Noone should ever do head to toe anything. I like to get styling ideas from him though.

I don't like Marc, because basically he is not my style at all. The girly Cute retro/ grunge are not something I like- I prefer something more grown up/ classic

I love marc because of his handbags, which I always seem to like (though does he actually design them himself or does someone else do that? )

Well if you wear too much of anything I think you're trying to hard. That's why a word called style is used.

$58 dollars for a Marc, clear plastic umbrella with a small design on one side. And the sad thing is that people (especially over in his lj community) are dying to buy it. There's no way that's justified.

I like some of his clothes, I really do. But the price tag is ridiculous. I have a dress of his from Neiman that's never been worn but yet there are threads sticking out. Not even good construction.

I love the Blondie-t-shirt and the antiwar (you know, the one where a "guy" holds a gas-station-thing up to his head. I actually bought that one in Paris and i love it). I like some of the women's clothing and love him for Louis Vuitton. I like him.

i have a question for all the parisian marc fans (or people who visited)
what do you think of the people who work in the marc jacobs store?
last time i was there this nice guy helped me i think his name is benjamin
he is really nice(plus cute:blush: )
what do yall think?
 crazy question i know but i want to know:D:p

I hate Marc Jacobs because his clothes are op shop material and he's over rated. I also hate his hair.

I love Marc Jacobs because he always seems to do something interesting, rediculous or beautiful. He is a unique creative figure on the New York scene with his own lables. I hate him because I think some of his items are rediculous and WAY over priced, but then I also like him because I feel like with his Marc line I can usually find something interesting to add to my classic pieces.

Well, I don't find this too surprising ... yes, LV has been known for luggage for some time, but that's all ... whereas Coco was arguably the most influential person in fashion in the 20th century. Anyone else would be remembered for just one of her innovations/trends started (e.g., the suntan). So even with Karl driving Chanel into the ground from an artistic perspective :innocent:, there's still a huge reserve of cachet, whereas LV has comparatively little.

I'm really unimpressed with him. Of course, I won't deny that I loved him before I knew a thing about any other designers, before I had even seen some designers collections because he was one that stuck out to me. Now there are so many that absolutely out shine him. Anyway, I bought a Marc dress for prom because I was really unsatisfied with any of the other dresses, and I found this, and I guess I wasn't thinking, and just bought it. $353 for some heathered tshirt material.. mine was blue, however. I don't know what I was thinking.

My mom bought me that ugly Blondie promo shirt for her getting into the Hall of Fame. It's such an ugly piece of sh*t. I mean, I know it was only $20. I've never worn it. Nice of my mom, though, to think of me.

Moreorless, I just think he's getting way too much credit when so many other designers who are worthy of more recognition are getting absolutely none. It's really sad.

wow you reeeaally dont like Marc Jacobs lol. Personally I really liked the last S/S collection but I can see how when you're older his designs might look really unsophisticated and immature. Also, the hype around the MJ label is very off-putting. But yeah, I like the MJ aesthetic anyway :)
