why do you like/ hate marc jacobs?

Oh yes. All the granny stuff. I dont know why anyone would want to look like Mr and Mrs Rogers, old stuffy cardigans and hideous calf height boots. And for some reason people consider him brilliant for dressing them like 98 year olds.
LMAO. That's thing! You somehow dont come out looking like a 98 year old.

I think some of his individual pieces (not LV, just marc by marc jacob) are cute, I am able to find one or two pieces I really like and really fit my style and body shape in each season. His shoes are also real cute and comfortable. BUt there are also pieces that would make me think: who would wear that?!?

i love marc jacobs design technique and i love how he admits his design flaws, so may designers have their entire design team design their entire collection and DON'T fess up to it, at least hes honest, no designer is perfect.

I hate and love Marc Jacobs at the same time:blush: ,Personally, despite that he constantly does a rather"Nice" collection on the women's ready to wear part,I think Marc(or his team) has ruined Louis Vuitton,I cant believe the same man made all those tacky handbags!!!it gets worse and worse every year!! ,the last collection that i think shows his geniusness was the Suhaily line, and it went downhill from there!!!:yuk:

Oh yes, I forgot his work at LV. LV should ditch him and get a new designer. LV gives fashion a bad name.

Well he just signed for 10 more years...

Hahaha:lol: , BUT it's also because of MJ, LV is getting a lot more customers and $$$$$ in Asia IMO, especially the Japanese gals, they are so into his LV bags!!

The most overrated designer over the last ten years.
He's ok but his enopymous collection is everything but directional, he's led it in a rather unlinear way, and he admittedly owes a lot to other designers, Miuccia above all.
What he's really good at is what he started from, grungy looks that he wonderfully developed in his last f/w show.

exactly.

marc jacobs has taken the most iconic fashion movement to ever come out of america (grunge) and has reinvented it on nearly a yearly basis. even his ladylike pieces are usually styled on the runways so that they have this mystic cool twist making them modern and not matronly in the slightest bit. i love his work because nearly everything can be implemented into an existing wardrobe with ease.

the pieces are simple, but special...if that makes sense to you.

Wow! So concise! Love it! I never would have said it like that. But yes. You dont need a whole closet full of MJ to get his look.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE MARC JACOBS especially marc by marc jacobs. GOD hes AMAZING i am obsessed with his stuff. His bags are so young and HIP he knows his stuff. all his stuff is SOO elegant I LOVE HIM

I heart Marc by Marc Jacobs. I love this look ever since I skimmed thru it in WWD magazine...Woe is me, for I am just po' folk... =(

To me, a large majority of Marc Jacobs' creations are at best, slightly above mediocre. He creates very wearable pieces, but they tend to get over-commercialised (read: very mundane and boring) and somewhat unmemorable.

I think he should stay away from clothes.

On the other hand, I think he's very good at designing accessories. His accessories leave a much more lasting and vivid impression. (Erm he DOES design them as well, doesn't he ... ?)

Take Louis Vuitton F/W 2006.2007, for example. I can't remember any of the clothes clearly, but I do recall quite a few large and oversized hats that overshadow the eyes, and some very strange monogram bags that look like cooler bags. There's also this leopard print + monogram bag that surprisingly looks good. And then there're all these other bags that have orange chains hung on them.

(Style.Com) Ah-hah. Here's one of those big hats and a bag that's got an orange/bronze chain on it. Nice handle, too.

It could be the fact that I love Galliano, but sometimes I find MJ's works too plain for my taste. I mean, hey, Dior Resort 06/07 was simple too but it's a lot more memorable and impressive, no?

Ya, they don't look like they're 98 because they're not 98 years old, but the clothes! The clothes!! Gah, if it weren't on Daria youd expect it to be at Shady Pines Retirement Home...

I dont think Im a traditionalist at all but I think that bag with the headphone handle is so...inappropriate for a brand (not house at this point) like Louis Vuitton, it's so kitch, so stupidly simple it's almost insulting to the wearer. Though, they've been so degraded over the years it's hard to say what is and isn't appropriate for this longing to be young brand...

I think it's cute, when MJ tries to be unexpected he ends up showing the most godawful monstrosities that have no rhyme or reason behind them...That freakish hat, those boots...that bag!

Most MJ is unmemorable, because he doesn't have a look, his look is whatever is in style, he takes things from other designers looks, designers who rework thier look into something new and fresh for the current collections...He buys vintage dresses snips off the Rochas (ex.) label, adds a velvet flower at the waist and sews in his own label...Also, I doubt he designs his own accessories, maybe the godawful ones but he DID NOT design the Stam or the Elise (or whatever)...

Frankly though, he needs to challenge himself and vary his creations more. Or at least attempt to vary his creations.

Look at these two photos:

(Both from Style.com) Cool, they're both from the same collection, yeah? So why the heck is the background different? Well, they're from DIFFERENT collections, actually. The first one's from the Louis Vuitton F/W 06.07 collection and the second's from Marc Jacobs F/W 06.07. WTH.

In fact, the differences between the two collections are vaguely distinct. The palette's similar, the concept of large headwear exists for both, the pants are all flared ... what's the big difference, hey?

It's almost like he COPIED from his Louis Vuitton collection and then made a few adjustments, but I doubt he can really be accused of that because he DOES design for BOTH lines.

Ok let's be frank though - that mushroom-like knitted cap in the second picture does look quite nice. But that's all there is.

 I think his namesake label does do a lot of coping but at LV he has a little more progression. At least when you look at the F/W 06 for male. The material and shapes I thought were a new direction.
Right now I see a lot of people going back at the more mainstream labels.
Maybe we see no progression because it is a corporation at the end of the day. He has to bring in the money. And the money is in the retrospective collections he puts out.:innocent:
