why do you like/ hate marc jacobs?

I'm not a fan of Marc Jacobs' menswear at all because it's so plain yet expensive, but there is something in this interview that I agree with:

MJ: I really find men who are fashionably dressed terribly unsexy. I think fashion is something for women. It’s a terribly sexist thing to say, but I just don’t find fashionably dressed men attractive, and men who take too much time in the bathroom and spend too much time on their body, I find a bit poncy and silly. It just doesn’t turn me on.

Even though I like clothes, there are parts of this statement I agree with. After coming on to this board for half a year now I've become completely bored of discussing fashion obsessively like I used to...IMHO i just think fashion shouldn't be something that a man has to think so hard about. Or maybe it's just me since I've been getting tired of fashion for a while now. Eh, that point was probably off topic from the MJ statement but I kinda caught where he was going with it and just wanted to share that thought.

It seems to me the younger line he does is more creative and interesting. His main line and the Loius Vuitton line... meh. I think he is over-rated and his celebrity not interesting enough to sustain all of these lines. Louis Vuitton in particular I ask "why these clothes?" -- not to mention the ads.

How about cheers for his obviously talented but hitherto nameless and faceless design teams? The shoes are great.

Seen any articles about design teams recently? I can't remember where but I recently read one article about one of the creatives at Gap, and another about the girl who is launching Marc Jacobs house products line.

It must be peculiar for Marc Jacobs and have your name take on a life of its own like dead designers. (chanel, dior)

I'm glad Marc Jacobs doesn't like menswear because he's a scruffy little tramp so I'd be pretty worried if he did.

I think he's way too overhyped, but most of his shoes and his Marc line are really cool.

i like his shoes, not too sure about his clothes but occasionally he has some cute items.

regardless him being 'untalented' as many note, i find him a very good 'stylist' with obvious stylistic influence in the 'teen' mass market, see topshop/zara/h&m younger lines

his work for LV isnt bad either, he's a succesfull artistic director -a little too soft on the vintage mood - with a steady 'developement' which i like

he's no hit and run, he's less egotripping than 'other' american designers 'making it' in europe..
we always need to understand, his success was not a piece of cake of Mark and he's still moving on.. he has his 'own' style, even if it is just a rework on the vintage trip, i got nothing against him, eventhough i almost feel ..guilty for saying that ...

I like Marc Jacobs's stuff. He was one of the people who really got me interested in fashion, because he was doing something I liked. I'm young and his designs seem to be targeted more towards the younger generation, so I suppose that's why it works for me anyway. I also really enjoy how everything he does seems to have a vintage vibe... Though I suppose that's also sort of his downfall because I could find something similar to his expensive pieces at a thrift store.

He's anti fashion in so many different ways...which is kind of weird and contradictory because he really is very popular. His way of being anti fashion also differs from...let's say Prada or what's going on right now at YSL because he's not hiding behind intellectualism or harkening back to a Euro chic seemingly unconcerned with America(na). His team is obsessed with Time, that's really the story they are telling through their colours, shapes, fabrications. It's a very modern take on romanticism with all the usual trappings of vulnerability and being rebelliously anachronistic. It's very hearty design, there's a lot in there, especially when you realize how much work goes into making these clothes seem they way they do. It's all planned, even toward making the clothes wear and fray in certain places. It's great American design, no doubt about it.

I love marc jacobs! I mean I dont agree with everything he says but I think that his line is brilliant (womans line) and thats really whats important, right? I love his use of color and shape.

I don't really like Marc Jacobs, but I don't hate him either - occasionally I see a design I like (I'll often like his shoes, sometimes his clothes), but I generally think he's overrated.

hate... i can say i have never liked ANYTHING of his, even LV bags... maybe there was a pair of shoes i once liked but that is it. i have NEVER understood his cult following.

I really wasn't a fan of the wide-shouldered, boxy cuts of LV from last Spring/Summer...i tried some of the clothes on and it felt like I need quarterback shoulders to properly fit in the jackets, even some of the button down shirts

I like both the Marc by Marc and the LV menswear lines. I like the styling of the MbM shows, admittedly, and the LV line is where I'm at when I want another label to look at when I need to be dressed up (along with Dolce&Gabbana, Gucci & YSL).

I also feel ripped off at his admission of him not having any part with the LV menswear. He shouldn't be the one coming out after the shows, then. It should be the team–something like what happened to Chloe womens this season.

i think his ads are amazing. he is bringing truly critical people to the limelight in an obnoxious world overflowing with j-lo's fat as-i mean ego. i love some of his clothes, and used to be a dedicated fan, but i'm getting a bit sick of the florals and the sweaters.
