why do you like/ hate marc jacobs?

anyone know if he has had a plastic surgery?
saw him 2 years ago in paris.. and he was so ugly that i nearly threw up!!!
and the pix in www.out.com is done wit photoshop:-P

How can you not like someone just because they are addicted to cigarettes? Sorry, just seems a little...harsh? It's not like you're sitting next to him eating dinner every night or something.:o

Hm... I think I could've worded that better, then. Let me try this:

If he's working on trying to be healthy, at least he doesn't have to be a hypocrite and smoke too. Maybe that's his own battle but he would be better off not smoking and attempting so much cardio in his workouts.

Not trying to turn this thread into something else...but just because you smoke doesn't mean you have to be unhealthy in *all* aspects of your life, or else you're a hypocrite. That's like saying, oh, you eat McDonalds? Might as well smoke too! If you're a smoker, why not be healthy in every other way you can? Sheesh.

John,

I can completely understand your viewpoint, and considering the mans POV, I myself can agree with you disheartment. Although I don't believe it's the most ethical of MJ to put his name on the blood, sweat and tears of the assistant designers, he admited to the in the "Butt Magazine" article below. However, from a Lady's perspective, Marc Jacobs is relevant, fresh (in American Design). His signature style proves his savvy in both Art and Fashion history, concurrently his referencing of several iconic (style and political) movements in Fashion prove his dedication to the art of fashion. So, no I do not believe that MJ is being Noble by vehemently agreeing to the notion that he abhors menswear (and fashionable men), but his design eye keeps both lines consistent with one another.

I agree, Marc has some quirks that makes it easy to overlook his designs, and certainly not all his collections are masterpieces. Yet, I feel he consistently shows a vision, a really powerful one, to garner my respect. F/W 07 and F/W 06 were amazing and really lead the industry IMO. No I don't love him but I certainly do like his work.

BTW, I went to go take a look at some of pants for this fall, they are fully lined and have stir-ups! They are some SERIOUS pants!

I like the M by MJ and Special Items lines, even though he probably has 0-1% input into them. They have some nice stuff from time to time, and the tees have neat prints and fit well.

I love Marc for reinventing his namesake line.
I hate Marc for destroying LV to the point of no return.
I love Marc for his new makeover.

I used to NOT be a MJ fan, but lately I am getting to like him more and more.

i hate marc jacobs because everyone who has heard his name thinks they "looove fashion" and everyone who owns one of his pieces thinks they are fashionable/stylish/have great style

i love marc jacobs because spring/summer 2003 louis vuitton
and spring/summer 2004 angela lindvall campaign picture

Ok last night I read the whole thing about him and the menswear and I was so disgusted I coundt even get myself to comment sice then Ive gotten a over it but I think that was something he should have kept to himself.

Marc Jacobs' clothing isn't too bad; in fact, it's hugely influential and often well designed and created. However, like most major brands, the pieces are awfully expensive. This coat runs for $3000 and reminds me of items I've seen in thrift stores for $15.

Marc jacob man's wear are sucks, only idiot will buy things from him and think it is fashionable or stylish, even APC looks 10 times better.

Wow, interesting thread. I never knew there were actually Marc Jacobs critics out there considering how well he sells.

I don't like MJ because he tries to sell a lifestyle/look instead of quality/innovative/interesting design. It's hard to interpret his stuff and look good in it, because his pieces (when separated) are grungy, dated (not in a sporting vintage good way) and cheap-looking.

I just don't think he's a strong designer. I understand he's popular because his stuff is very easy to wear, especially if you're lazy enough to just swap the whole look. I don't mind him; I just don't spend $$$ on his clothes.

Oh, but I kinda hate how he did that spread with Niaomi, because he looked just like Galliano did a few months earlier. Tutu and all. Why would he copy so blatantly? Maybe there is some strange underlying circumstance that I dont know about.

I "hate" his line for all of those ridiculous buttons and bows his designs are laden with...

If he'd just somehow make the buttons smaller and less center-piece like.

i'm going to bump this becuase i think a number of people probably have quite a bit to add to this thread after that last show...

:innocent:...
