What kind of lighting is best for putting on makeup?

^Or, I find that using VERY bright frosted bulbs can work well, also. But nothing is as good as natural light.

i like 'white lights' for applying makeup. the ones i have above my sink are yellow, i turn on my lighted mirror when im putting on makeup because it gives me a more accurate look of how i will appear when i leave the house. i think its especially important to have good lighting when putting on any kind of skin makeup like concealer, foundation etc because your skin changes color depending on season/how much sun you get or not.

- when foundation doesnt match too! it ruins everything because the skin is the canvas for makeup! my sister showed me some photos of Asian American pageant contestants makeup..the horror! their faces were covered in too light foundation and it was spackled on, like a thick layer of it! you can tell they have a lot because their noses almost disappear into their faces.

- too much blush, applied incorrectly..as in covering almost their entire cheek area instead of just the cheekbone, it makes their faces look very saggy

- white eyebrow highlighter

- eyebrows : brow powder doesnt match the hair on their head, filling it in too much(leave it for Galliano runways!), some girls literally trace their brows and color them in like a coloring book *bleh*! and when girls try to make their eyebrows appear longer by extending the line..it looks so weird close up because you can see there is no hair there and plus brows arent supposed to grow into the sides of the heads! or filling the eyebrows very nicely but not trimming the long hairs that hang down EW

- clumpy mascara..i will not leave the house if my mascara is clumpy..id rather be late

- curling the lashes incorrectly..sometimes they overbend the lashes and there is no curl, its pretty when you look at then straight on but from the side its weird especially when they blink. not curling enough, it can make girls look sleepy(or maybe its from wearing too many layers of mascara that the lashes fall down!)

- eyeliner that isnt applied close enough to lashline, it floats above it

- lipliner outside of the lips to make it look fuller(lindsay lohan & megan fox..both have beautiful lips but the liner has got to go!)

- messy makeup in general..ever heard of a q-tip? they dont clean the fall out from eyeshadow..its all over their lashes and tops of cheeks or sides of their eyes..mascara on their eyelids or underneath their lids from blinking too hard after applying.

I hate it when people wear havey foundation and they don't need to! I have TERRIBLE skin. Literally, 47,000 different skin tones, SEVERE hyperpigmentation and acne and some scars. I have to wear full coverage, opaque foundation. I have gotten quite good at making it look natural, but still, I wish I didn't have to wear such heavy makeup. I would love to just be able to wear a light liquid foundation or a tinted moisturizer and be done with it. SO....if you don't need it, please don't wear heavy foundation!

ha ha, you're sweet, but you have never seen me w/o makeup. It is literally like night and day. There is a literal ugly and pretty me, lol.

I apply my makeup in layers. I stipple my panstik on in thin layers all over my face. Usually three thin layers with a dry sponge. Then I blot it lightly yet thouroughly with a tissue. That is really important as it keeps the powder from caking up on it. Then I puff a VERY generous amount of powder on. A butt load of powder, in fact, lol. I let it sit for about 5 minutes and then I brush it off gently with a fluffy powder brush. I apply an all over highlighter to bring my skin back to a natural "radience" look and then most people don't know I have thick, heavy grease paint on.

so i have this new co-worker..she's nice so far but her makeup is another story..(this is where i get struck by lightning lol)

i kind of get it because she is young..still in highschool but she wears so much makeup! mainly around the eyes, the other day she was wearing this brownish/orangey = burnt orange(terracotta?) eyelid look..not blended, jagged looking half moons. its a horrible shade..i remember it being a trend a few years ago but i think it looked wrong on so many girls, it made them look sick. to top it off, tons of black liner and clumpy mascara..and for some reason her nose look lighter than the rest of her face.. maybe she forgot to put a lil bit blush on her nose?

her friends were no better..black eyeliner abusers..they looked like they traced their eyes a thousand times. its just way too much for 15/16 year olds.

foundation that is so heavy, it makes you scared to give them a hug because their face might come off and onto your clothes.

Yeah agree. I overheard a girl at work on the phone telling someone not to wear white when they went out because she would get it covered in make up! Not her clothes, somebody elses!!! I have a hard time getting make up on my on clothes!

^ i see a lot of makeup tutorials with full foundation. i think its only really appropriate at night, for a big event, in pictures..but in person and during the day its really scary. its like they are gonna walk up to you and rip off their mask like surprise! i dont want to know what lurks underneath!

also going to add..when girls wear foundation on their foreheads. it makes people look old. bangs are better at covering breakouts than foundation because foundation can make it more obvious when its applied to the forehead.

lip colors that dont flatter. especially if it makes a person's teeth look more yellow.

foundation that is too dark or too light with the purpose of change one's skin color..just be happy with what you have got. we wont think you are tan or pretty pale if your face doesnt match the rest of you body.

smelly makeup. i think thats just a pet peeve of mine. dont wear so much foundation or whatever that people can smell you before you even walk up to them. and hugs are the worst!

I have to wear heavy foundation during the day. And concealer. And powder I have severe acne and psoriasis that nothing has worked to cure and needs to be covered up.

im sorry i didnt mean to offend you! i should have been more clear, i think in a lot of tutorials its full foundation that is just slapped on and it looks really messy like before they put on the rest of their makeup. if they left the house with only their 'base' makeup they would look awful. but a full face thats done carefully can look really great! and im sure you have great makeup skills!

^eh, I wasn't offended, I was just saying that some people who wear heavy foundation do it because they have to and not because they want to. And yes, not too sound to arrogant, but I can make it look fairly natural. Just add highlighter and blush and bronzer to the right places and it makes it look oh-so-gorgeous

I can't stand it when people wear so much bronzer that you look at them and think "whoa, bronzer." Bronzer should look natural. I know I apply mine as lightly as I can so I can obtain a glow and not orange streaks on my cheekbones

^ ITA. The worst is when people wear bronzer and it makes them look dirty rather than tan. I was in a meeting with some woman the other day who literally painted her eyebrows black...but she has light brown hair. It looks so weird. You could actually see the paint over the hairs. I couldn't stop staring.

Guilty as charged, but it was the new foundation I was experimenting... I have never worn those crap ever again.

THanks for the technique, going to try it out someday, and it sounds like the secret Kevin Auccoin uses with a twist.
