WSJ Magazine June 2016 : Anna Ewers & Edie Campbell by Mikael Jansson

GREAT EXPLORATIONS IN KENYA PT.3

VISUALIZING.FASHION

Of course, it was styled by my beloved George Cortina:wub:

Extremely stunning editorial. Great work.

Fantastic location, great styling, awesome models and Mikael can do no wrong
I'm gonna look at this again and again and again.

It's not perfect but the covers and this edit do have some individually captivating images; at any rate this reminds of how good fashion stories can be when *shock horror* it looks like someone has actually put an effort into the production of it (just like the good old days).

I mean it's done well, but the concept is hardly groundbreaking, fashion can't go a few months without a white girl in Africa editorial a la 'Out of Africa'.

Agree. As much as I like it there's been so many African Safari stories this season that it takes away from my admiration a bit.

I second your points HeatherAnne and A.D.C., that was my very first thoughts too when I saw the editorial. Apart from this, it's quite the nice surprise of the week -so far- when it comes to photography and modeling. Anna proves once again she can do everything, Eddie delivers and Jansson is at his best here (according to my tastes at least). But then again, the theme makes me feel slightly uncomfortable. That's not only déjà vu but also far from the way I like Africa to be portrayed.

I agree with the theme being overused, however that editorial is stunning!! I am drawn to it.

I really like Edie here. I like her soft side a lot more than when they try to make her edgy.

Anna looks great as always, but I really don't like the blurry giraffe on the logo.

AMEN

The covers and editorial are stunning, really brilliant styling by Cortina, but it's as innovative as MacGyver coming back to TV. I still don't get why Fashion's vision of Africa is always tainted with colonialism.

Thank you justaguy and gazebo.

The styling, the girls, the mood comes alive with such warmth, and beautifully composited shots. It’s great to see the art of rich lighting and masterful cinematography hasn’t been forgotten in fashion photography. The stuff of dreams to me.

It’s so rich and full of life that I feel ungrateful for criticizing… but I do prefer that the story left out the portraits of the sole wildlife and just concentrated on these beautiful girls.
