Q&A and Exclusive Video with Eclipse's New Aussie Vamp Xavier Samuel
Aussie actor
Xavier Samuel--who joins the cast of
The Twilight Saga as the vampire Riley in
Eclipse--stopped by the
Teen Vogue offices this week. We quickly learned a few things about him: he's got an awesome taste in music, he knows his menswear (he used to sell shirts at a store called
Herringbone in Sydney), and he just bought a '92 Chrysler Fifth Avenue with red plush interior. Want to know more? Keep reading and be sure to check out our exclusive video after the jump.
How was filming Eclipse?
Playing Riley was cool--I get to boss around a bunch of newborn vampires. I had a really good time hanging out with everyone in Vancouver. I play the guitar, so
Jackson [Rathbone] and I had a few jams together--
Rob plays as well, he's really good. It's kind of awesome when you go to the other side of the world and find a bunch of people who are all into music and like the same bands as you.
What kind of stuff have you been listening to lately?
I'm really into this new African band called
The Very Best. There's this amazing track on their album,
The Warm Heart of Africa, called "Chikondi." It's got that kind of magnetic feel to it--like
Sun Kil Moon or
Bon Iver.
Are you hooked on any TV shows these days?
Bryce [Dallas Howard] actually got me a DVD set of
Lost which I really want to get into. I don't really watch that much these days, but I'll admit I used to watch
Dawson's Creek and
The O.C. growing up in Australia. Yes, we do get American TV there--though people think Australians have like one public phone and all ride kangaroos to work.
Who are some of your favorite directors? How about actors?
I'd really like to work with the Coen Brothers, as well as Wes Anderson and Paul Thomas Anderson. For actors, I'd say Mark Ruffalo, Billy Crudup, and Philip Seymour Hoffman.
Tell us who's on your celebrity crush list.
I'd have to say
January Jones from
Mad Men,
Natalie Portman, and the girl who plays the obsessive fan Mel on
Flight of the Concords.
