Yay or Nay - Hairstyles and colours

Dazzle I like your second pic. The "side bangs" or whatever you call them, make you look older, intelligent, and sophisicated (versus your first pic). Thinking of trying the "side bang" thing myself! Hehe.

I'm getting bored with my hair. Its been the, now boring, short flip up in the front- varrying in length and such...

Problem is my hair is pretty wavey and just becomes a giant afro if I let it grow out...

ideas anyone? :innocent:

 I have got light brown hair that is quite thin and I really wanna dye it blonde or get blonde highlights. My mum wont let me tho! Im only 13 and she says it will wreck my hair. I dont think it will and keep on buying hair dyes which neva work. I want to go to the hairdressers 2 get it dyed proffessionally, but will it wreck me hair???

If you're already buying hair dyes and using them, I don't think it will make that much of a difference if you go to the salon! Dying (whether its the bought dye from the store or professionally done) does ruin your hair though so don't do it too often...

I personally dont like when people stray too far from their natural hair color. Chances are, you look good the way you are, and you are only going to regret the damage you will cause to your hair. I NEVER spend a lot of money on hair....I save it for the clothes! Besides, it's much sexier to stay natural, plus think about ROOTS. You are going to have to touch up every 4 to 6 weeks (sometimes even 3 and a half)....if you dont, you are going to look fake and cheap. Think about it.

It may be less wavy if you let it grow long .
A friend of mine with curly hair keep her hair long for this reason .

I think you should talk to a hairstylist about this. I started dying my hair when I was thirteen...fifteen now and my hair is healthier than most of my friends despite constant coloring and straightening iron action. My hair is naturally frizzy but not curly and a crazy mix of blonde brown and red that changes color with the season. I've done a couple rounds of cherry red highlights, a yearish of blonde highlights, all auburn, and now I'm practically platinum. If you're going to go blonde, make sure with a hairstylist you trust. Bring in pictures of colors you want and ask about what you'll need to maintain the colors. Depending on how dark your hair naturally is, you will need to go back for touchups pretty often. I'd suggest going with some subtle blonde highlights first, nothing too drastic. Also make sure you invest in a pretty good shampoo, conditioner, gel, etc. to keep the color from fading and to lock in moisture. I love to think of hair as a perfect palette to experiment with...especially because even if you get a bad cut or ugly color it always grows back!

On the mom front...Perhaps you could suggest paying for the color at the salon yourself? This worked on my mom. She is very low maintenance when it comes to hair and didn't want me to ruin my hair either. I payed for the first few rounds of color but now she pays for them because she gets more excited about changing the colors than I do! It's good your mummy's concerned though...its their job! :woot:

Good luck, and I hope this helped!

you need to keep in consideration your skin tone etc.. liek fi you ahve really dark skin, i dount think going blod will look good.

it will probably wreck your hair a bit, btu nto alot, depending on the bleahc hough.

Just don't go blonde unless a very reliable and good colourist has told you that it'll look good! Not everyone can be a blonde! Don't find out the hard way!

Already did the fro thing- looked terrible and stood about 6-8 inches strait up with no signs of falling... not on its own anyway. dipping my hair in a bath of hair gel made it "fall" a bit :yuk:

I could pull my bangs down over my eyes, let go and right back up

Maybe if I let it grow another 6-8'' it would fall but thats 1 year of looking like an escaped circus monkey...

I've done too much to my hair before and it got really damaged. So now I do nothing to it other than taking good care of it.

I have natural chestnut color hair myself and I've tried blonde---I say I prefer myself in dark hair. and you know when the color you dye is a lot lighter/darker than your natural hair color, it looks really ugly when the new hair starts growing out. it's better to do some highlights.

everyone experiments with their hair. its fun and i mean come on. its just hair. if it looks so incredibly bad, just make the stylist tone it to a color you like. Plus it will grow out. I'd suggest try highlights first.

I have medium brown hair that becomes reddish in summer with white blonde highlights. I've been dyeing and highlighting since highschool. I get highlights every five weeks that help keep my summertime look, and as soon as summer hits, no more salon except for trims for me. I've been auburn, brunette, blonde blonde and everything in between. My hair recovers after a few days and is normal again.

If you hair is thin, you might want to be careful and make wise choices because it can tend to be brittle. Also, try subtle highlights then add more if it isn't what you want.

It took me years and years to finally decide that I wanted to try to go blondish.

Instead of just jumping in head first and going from dark brown to blonde, I asked my colourist what she thought. We dyed my hair a lighter shade of brown first and put in a few blondish coloured chunks. When I went back 5 weeks later to touch up my roots, we dyed my hair another shade lighter brown and added even more blonder highlights. Now my hair is a very light shade of brown with a lot of blonde in it. Two more trips to the salon and I will be a blonde.

I'm actually surprised that it looks this good on me. I was unsure of how I'd look but I trust my colour technican. But everyone here is right, make sure you talk to a colourist first because it might not suit you. The orignal blonde that I wanted wouldn't have suited me at all. It has to go with your skin tone and so forth.

Keep in mind, that if you pay for it yourself its going to cost some money to go from dark brown to blonde. My first round cost 200.00$, the second round costs 128.00$ (all this without the tips) I'm assuming that the third and 4th rounds will be slightly cheaper as well.

Japanese Silk hair straightening...

You might want to look into this. Its a total hair transformation for you. Its a straightening that lasts a very long time...only problem is when your roots start to grow out, it looks nasty. Its also an expensive process (and takes a lot of time), touch ups for the roots aren't that bad though.

I'm waiting until I see my salon do it on a few more people before I trust them with my head for that!

I have straight hair.. but one day I crimped my hair.. I looked so different and got many compliments.. try that...

Or try this product ..triple barrel iron
Its a lil different (I used this one and not the basic crimper) you can put some oil in your hair right before you start...so no fly aways... here are the results :)

Those triple barrel things are really difficult to use correctly. I've tried it and so have a bunch of my friends (so all different hairtypes) and we've had no luck. The few curls we could get fell out rather quickly too. We've used aquanet for some and oil type stuff on others but no luck.

I have crazy curly wavy hair that's been growing out from a shorter cut.. Let it grow! Mine's about six inches past my collar bone and it's stop going into a fro... it's wavy because it's so heavy. Once it gets longer, then consider a few layers so your hair doesn't look weighed down and it really probably frizz unless it's rainy. Where I live is uber uber humid, so I have to deal with it and this is the best cut for crazy hair, IMO... ;)
