Your Beauty Routine

I have very basic routine. Anyhow, it seems to work as I have been told I have pretty good skin (if very pale).

Clarins multi-active day cream - all skin types in the summer, for dry skin in the winter.
Clarins Multi-active skin renewal serum.
Clarins eye contour balm.
Biotherm lip balm.

During the day sometimes: Biotherm Aquasource.
Once per week: Clarins exfoliator and Clarins Cleansing Milk With Alpine Herbs 'Dry/Normal Skin.

I don´t like to put too much stuff in my skin, I believe in drinking lot´s of water and eating healthy, that if something keeps skin looking good and hair healthy looking.
I try to be as ecological as I can and try to pick products that have not been tested with animals.

BODY AND FACE

Bodylotion that I bought from pharmacy, cannot remember the name of it but it is not animal tested. I put that also in my face.

The Body Shop Hemp hand creame.

The Body Shop Born Lippy lipbalm.

I usually just put lipbalm and mascara from Lumene as make-up.
Sometimes Double Saty foundation and Double Stay powder for Lumene.

I usually wash my face just with water but sometimes I put some Matt Touch gel from Lumene.

I wash my body putting little that bodylotion from pharmacy and mix it with water.

I rarely wear any fragrance but if I put something on it is Victor & Rolf Flowerbomb.

HAIR

I was my hair with TIGI products.
Eco Awsome shampo and moisturizer.
Totally Beachin body and wave styling mist.
I just wash my hair and leave it dry naturally.

I very, very, very rarely us hairspray. I hate hairpsray but if I use it is from TIGI.

I hate owning too many bottles this and that.
Less I own, happier I am.

:D

Cleanser: Clean & Clear Morning Burst Cleanser (I just bought this, i dont know if i'm crazy about it but i'm going to finish the bottle)

cream: spf25 Origins a Perfect World with white tea (it has a pleasant fragrance)

l'oreal foundation Magic Smooth

i usually dont bother with much other makeup during the work-week. Twice a week i use olay pro-x scrubbing brush with the loreal pro-x scrub to get rid of excess skin cells.

at night i use l'oreal youth code serum or prescription retin A alternating.

i am not wedded to certain brands, i usually buy whats on sale at the pharmacies.

I'm surprised at how many people don't cleanse their faces.

Well, I just use water as I dare say most of us do, aside from once a week when I use the Clarins cleansing milk.

I really don't think it's good with much cleansing. But that's probably something that depends on skin type.

^That!
I have [insert curse word] of a skin and if I fail to cleanse it properly just once I will get a nasty little breakout. :yuk: Sometimes I forget about it and just splash water on in morning or swipe with toner and then next day - BAM: breakout.
From that perspective I kinda envy people who can get away with not using cleanser on skin or just using it once a day.
Then again, skin sweats (continuously), excretes sebum (even dry skin) and dust, dirt, pollution, dead skin cells accumulate on skin as well as skin care from previous application. I just find it horribly wrong not to cleanse my skin before I apply something new, then I get a sandwich: skin, old skin stuff, dirt, new skin stuff on top - which is probably why I get breakouts from not cleansing. :o
Then yet again, sometimes I think manufacturers have brainwashed my skin into thinking it needs cleansing since it certainly helps them sell more products.:rolleyes:

 It depends on skin type and age. For me, I have noticed if I use too much exfoliation of cleansing my skin gets irritated and I have break outs. I cannot tell you the kind of damage some Shiseido toner once did....;/ Shiseido is just totally wrong for my skin overall.

Having studied some microbiology it is a long time since I gave up thinking about the skin as pure after cleansing. It never gets clean. Really. What you can do if you wash too much and get dry is that small cracks can cause shallow infection sites. It's very important to constantly keep the skins surface as intact as possible.

Oh yea, from a microbio point of view skin is never ever clean, I think even surgical hand disinfection with antiseptics only rids surface of microbes for very short amount of time. Clearly no face cleanser comes even remotely close to Sterillium and those things.
And you are very right about skin barrier function! I could swim in dexpanthenol, pantothenic acid, ceramides and all those nice things. Is why I hate harsh foaming cleansers, they ruin and irritate skin very fast = breakouts. But also having dirt, dust and sweat etc on skin irritates skin and that = breakouts. Also a nice environment for bacteria. :yuk: At least is that way for me.

I'm surprised at how Patrick Bateman-like some people's routines sound.

I wash my face with this:

I use Bare Minerals foundation. Pretty much it.:P

HAHAH funny
I wonder why people put so much chemicals in their face and body?
I believe in healthy lifestyle, drinking lot´s of water and
good moisturizer.
And if I use some products they have to be ecological and no animal tested.
Something that have to be tested with animals cannot be good...
And some products like exfoliatons is easy to make by yourself
:woot:
I have noticed that my skin is in better shape now when I just wash it with water and then put moisturizer than when I used tons of products.
But I guess that do not work with all people...
We get sh*t in our body & skin from outside and it feels disgusting, I do not wanna put more chemicals in my body.
:ninja:

^This. Im sure drinking lots of water, eating a healthy diet, exercising 30 minutes a day, and getting enough sleep always works better than using top rated skin products. I wonder if skin can maybe get addicted to skin products? And gradually you just need to use more and more? Who knows. All I know is I stay out of the sun and make a concerted effort to be healthy and happy, and my skin is clear 90% of the time

I'm surprised at how many people don't cleanse their faces.

my skin is somehow better when i don't use cleansers, it's very strange  but i don't wear much makeup either so it probably works out. if i did, i definitely would use something to get that makeup off!

iluvjeisa & jenna-maria that's how my skin is. it's more sensitive to face products than makeup, less is more for me.

I'm surprised at how Patrick Bateman-like some people's routines sound.

I wonder why people spend lots of $$$ on allergy inducing products filled with harsh plant extracts because they're ecological when you can use safe non-reactive chemical ingredients instead. Because if it's ecological it must be good, right? But oh well, different strokes for different folks

Drinking water will not affect your skin in anyway, that has never been proven at all. But stopping drinking sodas and sugary drinks will :D

The_Ida I wonder the same thing all the time. I also don't trust in the "more ecological brands" for sunscreen. In the consumer tests that I've seen, these kind of brands never have good ratings. (I saw one that used a Weleda sunscreen and the spf on the label was almost half to the real spf. WTF?). I known a lot of people here in the forum likes the Devita sunscreen...but I don't really trust them (sorry:(). I keep reading over and over again in reviews and forums that is not very effective and that people tanned/almost got burnt with this:(.

Besides avoid irritating plant extracts and essential oils here's what I do:

-Apply sunscreen every morning to every exposed area (I don't pay much attention to the spf, I care about ppd rating or zinc oxide percentage). The sunscreen that I apply on my neck, chest and back is also non-comedogenic. I don't use formulas with strong fragances (I don't like walking around smelling like Avene or Bioderma sun products:yuk:).
-If I spend a long time outdoors, I reapply sunscreen every 2 hours (I dislike doing this so much, that I avoid spending a long period outside-I am so lazy:smile:!)
-In the end of the day I remove the sunscreen with a cleanser and apply Lysalpha cicapeel 2-3x a week
-ZERO moisturizer...they always give me pimples
-Never try more than one face product during one week, because my skin is acne-prone and sensitive

-Any shower gel (that is not a exfoliating one) will do
-I apply moisturizer to my body maybe...once a year:smile:, to hands and lips 2x a week...I always forget to use it:smile:...No wonder I never finished a moisturizer in my life:innocent:
-I exfoliate my feet...twice a year

Hair:

-Shampoo: Pantene for curly hair (2-3x a week)
-Conditioner: Pantene for curly hair (2-3x a month:smile:...I have no patience to use them:smile:
-I only get one haircut once a year (and that's the only time I go to the hairdresser...I also have no patience for this:smile:)
- I don't even own a hairdryer or any other heating tool and the last time I straightned my hair was more than 10 years ago (too much effort and did not last very long)
- I don't brush my hair when it is dry, I use a comb or my fingers
- In the morning, I only use a spray or a styling mousse for curly hair after combing my hair and I am ready to go:smile:
- I never dyed my hair and I don't plan to until I get white hairs
RESULT: I never get damaged hair or splited ends

Makeup

-No makeup - because my skin is very acne-prone and I have NO skill (even applying mascara is hard for me...ah, ah, ah)

I also eat healthy. But in the exercise and stress management department I have a lot to improveB).

I also don't trust in the "more ecological brands" for sunscreen. In the consumer tests that I've seen, these kind of brands never have good ratings. (I saw one that used a Weleda sunscreen and the spf on the label was almost half to the real spf. WTF?). Not only consumer tests/reviews, also on small studies and anecdotal evidence from dermatologists natural/organic brands end up sharing last places with pseudo-science stuff a la L'Oreal and sometimes they end up even behind those because of the irritations and pore clogging waxes and whatelsenot is in there.
It's my guilty pleasure reading cosmetics design and derm mags when they pull out their VISA systems, ph-meters, ultrasound devices and all those gadgets and then compare how amazing at hydration or pigment reduction is stuff like Ultraceuticals and how Jurlique fails. Anyhow, eco/natural/organic skin care is a philosophy, not a science, it's about scaremongering, alarmists, ethics and what their products do not contain as opposed how how they benefit skin. :ninja:

That said, I'm also kinda long time user of Devita sunscreen, not because I want organic or vegan products, but because it's pretty much the only totally non-whitening, non-greasy sunscreen with minimal ingredients that doesn't cost over $30 per 50 ml and doesn't break me out. But it has it's flaws, since Devita is an organic company they use uncoated micronized zinc oxide, which would otherwise show up in ingredient list as silicone resin or other -cone compound - a total no-no for organic skin care. That all might sound great since zinc has amazing reputation as safe, non-irritating broad-spectrum sun filter, but that all applies to bulk zinc (>25'000 nm), not to micronized particles >100 nm, which are not nearly that stable in UV light and can be irritating on skin and Imo need to be coated to counteract that, like most responsible brands do, say Skinmedica or Skinceuticals. So far Devita has been great for me, but only because I'm anal about sun protection, I reapply and avoid sun during mid-day anyway. Also a friend also tested it in a lab, it really lives up the claims they write on the website, about the 380 nm critical wavelength and UVA protection being greater than PPD 10, it's just Devita doesn't last forever, especially at higher UV index it breaks down and protection goes = 0. Kinda like with most chemical or mixed titanium sunscreens (micronized titanium also isn't stable). Devita is not a sunscreen I'd take to beach or use it if I lived somewhere sunny, like Spain or Greece because it's simply not strong enough for that, nor is it sweat or water resistant, but it's great for everyday use since I don't need to cover up any whiteness or anything.

What I find more appealing is that Garnier Ambre Solaire and La Roche-Posay Anthelios have both failed me and I got tan when I used them, even though they have SPF50+/PPD 20+ and as said I'm anal about sun and application. Not a loss I mourn much since Ambre and Anthelios are too oily for me even the Extreme Fluid versions. Mexoryl SX+XL filters = huge fail on my skin, even tho they are aggressively advertised as the greatest thing in sun protection since invention of shade.
