Your Favourite Magazine

the atlantic monthly...they're articles are my crack cocaine

Umm... I've grown up on National Geographic, and we've recently started getting the New Yorker, which I love. I also went through a phase of attempting to read Sports Illustrated. Mostly to impress people though, and it didn't do me much good.

2nd that  the Atlantic -- prob. a tie for my fav with Harper's (not Bazaar)

I actually don't read fashion magazines too often. Who needs them as long as TFS exists?

I still need them. :innocent: B)

I like Harpers Bazaar and Real Simple. Harpers usually has good fahion spreads, they list all items of clothing for the most part (Vogue never seems to indicate what the brand and price of the models shoes are, among other things). Plus they give recognition to the models by printing their name at the end of the spread and I like that. It's not a perfect magazine but I find I really like it; it's the little things that are nice about it I suppose.

I don't read any of these, but FHM has so much ridiculous crap in it, so I picked FHM. Although, I used to read National Geographic, so I probably should have picked that.

I like it too. Too bad it's so damn expensive to subscribe to it. I read whatever I can on the internet.

Faust you have no idea how lucky you are magazine-price wise..The Economist costs more than 7$ pr issue in Denmark...a subscription is about 4$ pr issue..but it doesn't arrive untill monday instead of friday..and sometimes it doesn't arrive at all (I guess the postman likes to read it as well).

That's crazy, you are a stown-throw away from London, how does that happen?! Taxes?

If people are willing to pay...I guess
Books are more expensive too which is ridiculous..there are ofcourse the taxes on books, but another thing is that the bookstores have higher overheads, and sell less than in major capitals.

I used to like Harpers Bazaar but I now find it verging on the offensive. Its' articles about staying thin, plastic surgery & rich overpriviledged people are in there every month. e.g this month - the one with Nicole Kidman trying to tell the world that she isn't vain & she doesn't care about her looks....come on. The magazine as a whole is completely sycophantic & old-fashioned in its approach to fashion. The designers featured in the style section are soooo boring - Cavalli, Karan, Rodriguez.....yawn. I use to like that magazine because I thought the fashion editorials were good - you could see the clothes worn in interesting ways, but not unwearable ways which is sometimes what you get with some of the avant-garde mags (like Dazed & Confused or The Face (r.i.p)).

I know its all about appealing to the readership but I think I just fell out of their readership. I can't handle looking at any more pages & pages of how great Herrera & Michael Kors are....and pictures of young models dressed up in all those uptown statement clothes.

am I alone in my view?
