I put Yohji Yamamoto in the title because you'd never hit the threads on Y's by just Y's when searching.
but this Red Label is a line, which is supposed to be stronger than Y's Black Label by Yohji, designed by Michiko Suzuki.
she is younger than Limi, Tao, etc. she used to be a patternmaker at YY inc. before this.
this collection consists of the four colors, black, white, blue, and red.
"just married" as its theme

but when some more are up later somewhere, I'll post them.

Interesting to hear about another YY protege!
I'd love to hear what you mean by 'stronger' than Y's black label, runner? :flower: Perhaps more bold, striking, colourful?

i def don't think it means more colourful...

it usually means a bolder, more avant garde design...
stronger shapes and silhouettes...

but i will let runner speak for himself...
:ninja:...

:P

I love everything what he does! I wanna see more pics! thanks for sharing :flower:

you're all welcome

Avantster, Y's black label can be strong in some ways of course.
but it's so in the regular manner of Y's.
on the other hand, it seems as if red label/Michiko was somewhat allowed to express herself beyond that conventional manner.
as if she was allowed to express the strength more straightly, or in a more vivid way.
as if he entrusted what he cannot do to her.

the key word of red label A/W 06 was "spicy" while the one of black label was "protest".
we know "protest" has been one of yohji's underlying factors/requirements.
therefore there should be "protest" about red label as well since red label is still Y's.
"protest" is just the major premise.
so I think red label had something extra of "spicy", along with "protest".
in which sense red label could be more strongly seasoned.

btw red label is also supposed to be "punkish" in comparison with black label.

she is the younger generation than Limi, Tao, Makiko (behind matohu), etc.
it's obvious that yohji wants her to acquire as much experience as possible.
this S/S 08 is her/Red Label's fourth collection and also the first runway show.
these threads below include her previous collections if you are interested.

You explained that so beautifully runner, thank you. I definitely see the difference that you are talking about....that must be why I love Red Label so much! :P

I am so happy to know that Yohji has such wonderful people working for him, who will be able to continue his work and legacy.

you're welcome Inaya, laika

Y'S RED LABEL
Yamamoto protege debuts stoic new line

By MARTIN WEBB
Special to The Japan Times

While his daughter Limi prepares to present her Limi Feu line at the Paris collections for the first time in October, Yohji Yamamoto has selected another protege to take her place on the Tokyo runways.

Michiko Suzuki joined the Japanese fashion maestro's firm as a pattern-cutter shortly after graduating from Bunka Fashion College in 2000, and five years later was appointed as the designer of a new brand called Y's Red Label.

Until last week, when she staged her first catwalk show at the Meiji Memorial Picture Gallery (right), Suzuki had remained anonymous, but with this dark show combining military-inspired pieces with bridal veils and train skirts, she has stepped into the limelight.

Asked to explain the theme of the show, titled "Just Married," Suzuki said that because of the perpetual biannual cycle that rules the fashion world, this debut symbolized a till-death-do-us-part vow to the new brand.

Explaining that her target was a strong woman in her 30s or 40s, she added that the dark, imposing mood that underpinned the lineup of billowing navy pants, crisp white blouses and crystal-studded dresses was all her own conception and owed little to the moody oeuvre of her illustrious employer.

Asked by The Japan Times why she had chosen to unveil her work in Tokyo, rather than Paris, where all other Yohji Yamamoto lines are shown, she said, "Lots of people say that Tokyo is not genki (lively) in terms of fashion, but I wanted to prove them wrong."

While hardly a "lively" show, this should prove to be must-see collection in Tokyo's increasingly barren schedule.
