Yves Saint Laurent - The Campaign Archive

some of the clothes are really good like the suit in the 1st shot but i really hate this af. The stylin, lighting, poses...
Looks like a shot from a vintage horror flick!

I like it a LOT! I think they are much better than the ones last season with Karen Elson ( in my opinion the most boring and expressionless model ever!)

You go Daria!
Plus those pics with the Eiffel Tower in the background are STUNNING!

:0)

I like these Daria ads better than the Chanel ones. God those Chanel ads are so dull.

i have to defend the ads...

if you look at other ad campaigns you all see the same thing going on... great lighting, nice hair, makeup, everything is perfect... i think we need more something understated, something more intellectual, more focus on the spirit of the clothes... and one good example of this is the YSL ads...

I have to agree and join you in your defence!B) I am absolutely disgusted with 98% of the fashion advertisements out there today. Whether it's things like annoying text or much too perfect aesthetic, a lot of the ads plain suck! Not only is it refreshing to see a marriage between someone like Teller and the YSL brand, but it's also a relief to see that fashion isn't completely lost. As for those people who disagree with the casting for this ad..To each his own, but I think these images bring out a part of Daria Werbowy we have not seen.

i like it , it is new, different, ...it is an upgrade for the old days parisian couture photos,
very french, very YSL

what else to expect???

To me, the only person who would take a pic of the someone standing in front of the tower in that way is a tourist...the ad, to me, encourages looking at Paris and looking at the house through a pair of fresh eyes, from the sense of a visitor, which Pilati or any designer who takes over an already established house is. They're main responsibility is to respectfully upgrade, to remind you of what was and challenge you about what is. It has a jumbled, almost rushed sort of excitement to it with a very playful but very false sense of 'haute' on display, hallmarks of the photographer certainly. The ads are thus a collaboration of sorts, not purely Rive Gauche, not purely Teller but certainly evocative enough to do its job well.

Have you noticed that the house no longer is referred to as ' Yves Saint Laurent Rive Gauche ' , but simply ' Yves Saint Laurent ' .

The reason , I think is to separate off the days of Tom Ford as an aberration , and with no ' Yves Saint Laurent Haute Couture ' , there's no need to particularly identify that it's a RTW line .

The labels have changed to just the name as well , I think .

Incidentally , I love how Stefano Pilati has resurrected the house colours in a nifty little dig at Ford , by using them on a beach bag . It was a truly great loss to lose the four squares of block colour , to the boring old black and white William Soffeld label , introduced by Ford in his ruthless act of throwing out the baby with the bathwater . :yuk:

Nice one Stafano .

i love the contrast and lighting...
but daria doesnt look her best..
the styling isnt my favorite...

the clothing isnt highlighted...
nothing really flatters...

i think paris looks best!...
but daria and the clothes havent met their potential IMO..

i think stefano might want to have this massege : YSL is Paris & Paris is YSL.

for this reason the clothes weren't highlited!! i guess?

I love the photos. But I think the model is wrong.

I agree. Love the ads, not so sure about Daria. IMO they should've kept Karen.....

i wish to see the face of LUCIE DE LA FALAISE again, her face reminds me of YSL original days:heart: .

she looks young & mature at the same time, i love the hint of shyness in her eyes..looks more romantic.

The adds look so old and "démodé".

I think they are supposed to attract the old clientèle that they have lost.
But I'm not sure that they are still alive....
Maybe in a museum,an old magazine or in a book ?

Can somebody please stop Stefano Pilati ?

oh manuel ur from paris, i thought the parisians are happy with stefano, since he returned back to the roots of ysl & restores the image of ysl after tom ford sex era by making it more french??? is this true?

Oh manuels

To me , Yves Saint Laurent ( and Claude Montana , but that's another story ) , mean PARIS FASHION , at its ultimate .

Tom Ford made YSL Rive Gauche into ' slick French fashion , with Italian twist and an American aftertaste ' .

It is NOT , ysl means ALL that is the best in ' FRENCH CHIC ' . Nothing more , nothing less .B)

Stefano Pilati has been instrumental in bringing ALL the Frenchness back and for that he should be applauded , NOT excoriated .

No offence manuels , but enjoy living in the world's capital of high fashion , and please please value a man who has cossetted and revivified one of your greatest cultural icons . ^_^

Hi Taz and Kit,

Don't get me wrong but I love the work of the Yves Saint Laurent, but have you seen anything new from the designer himself after the 80's ?
The house was a complete mess before Gucci bought it.
Check on ebay, what sort of licenced crap you still can find.
(they had even slippers in the subway in Tokio ,marked YSL...)
Apart from the Couture, everything was really bad.
Sort of like a the house of Pierre Cardin or Louis Féraud.

Eventhough the first Tom Ford collections were not that good,I think that his last ones were exquisit !
(let me remind you that Pilati was head designer under Tom Ford for all those years)

Seeing these new adds, they remind me of the 80's, and all the fake gold accents that were part of this so called french chic.

There is no more of that kind of chic anymore.
The Champs Elysées are full of McDonald's and cheap stores.

I think that the YSL label should move on with the future and not going back to the past.

SO SO pleased you appreciate YSL Rive Gauche , pre 1980s .

I have a vast collection of ' St.Laurent Rive Gauche ' , as it was known as until about 1983 , and EVERYTHING is to die for , when all the collection was made almost exclusively in France , of superb couture quality ( men's formal clothing made by TONTO to couture standards , JUST like Hedi's first collection for YSL in the late 90s .)

Malheuresement , Ford and De Sole closed down MENDES , the women's manufacturer , closed off the Made in France avenue for the manufacture of the menswear , and moved EVERYTHING to Italy , throwing out the baby with the bathwater , IMHO .

I think that the actual change of name from ' Yves Saint Laurent Rive Gauche ' to simply ' Yves Saint Laurent ' , HIGHLY significant in the context of the house's relevance today .

Incidentally , I found this last evening , and it kept me up until 3.00am !!!!
