Yves Saint Laurent "Opium" Fragrance : Emily Blunt by Patrick Demarchelier

I like it but I think that they could have done something more with Emily. Judging from her eds, she can definitely do more dramatic and sensual shots. Hey, at least it isn't the first shot that a lot of people thought was the actual campaign.

why not use the original one? which is more seductive and timeless. loreal is a ******** group without aesthetic, it ruins the brand's heritage.

Not really, the other definitive British faces were Kate Moss and Karen Elson in YSL Opium ads too. I think it's just the results were a little short of with what they could do with Emily.

sophie dahl too, can't forget that one:lol:

That's Opium after she's been to rehab. In a way, I suppose the blandness reflects the spirit of reformulation.
This is definitely one case where a relapse would be desirable.

It's not as catastrophically wrong as the "preview image" led us to believe it would be, but it's a far cry from living up to the name...since that's really all that's left of Opium.

Too boring and tame for Opium. It's a beautiful image, she definitely looks drop dead gorgeous but there's no excitement or interest in that image. I don't see how this ad can stand out among all the others good fragrance campaigns.

She just lays on the sofa... how amazing
I will always be the one to vote for celebrities NOT being involved in fashion.

As most members have said it's not a necessarily bad shot but it's just a watered down version of what Opium really is. My favorite ones were the ads with Karen and Mariacarla, those reslly represented the essence of the fragrance.

definitely not as strong as previous opium campaigns. i mean, really, just let models do the work. i'm sure the majority of them are cheaper, and they will more than likely produce a better shot.

Thank HEAVENS its not the first image. As great as Emily looks, I'll always miss Mariacarla's ad.

She does looks great, but the whole thing is a collection of super-bland cliches, not least when you consider this product is one of the legendary names in perfume, with a stunning visual heritage of advertising and plenty of scope left for interesting reinterpretation in the years to come.

In the new print ad and the TV commercial she looks amazing and so gorgeous!

I totally get the YSL vibe from this now.

ew, she's just sitting there. she's not even looking into the camera lens.
- this is such a far departure for what the opium fragrance represents for YSL, historically. can we get back to the days when campaigns, artistically, represented the fragrance? it's called OPIUM & this says nothing about a scent of strength, passion & even controversy. YSL's beauty campaign has more depth than this- something is very, very wrong. & for emily blunt being cast- i know she's on the actress map but she doesn't possess the intensity for such a fragrance. very disappointed in this; especially considering how much i respect YSL & stefano, creatively.

Emily Blunt On Her YSL Opium Campaign: ‘It Was A Terrible Mistake’

Emily Blunt may have snagged one off fashion’s most iconic campaigns, but the contract certainly hasn’t gone to her head.
When asked why she was chosen as the face of YSL’s Opium fragrance — an honor once held by Linda Evangelista — Blunt told The Telegraph:

‘I don’t know. I’ve no idea,’ she says, wheezing with laughter. ‘There was no one else? They made a mistake, a terrible mistake.

The ad, which she describes as focusing on a “woman, on a mission – in really high heels”, also features a live leopard, who had a surprising influence on Blunt’s outfit.

She says she suggested wearing a dress in the advert rather than the classic Yves Saint Laurent tux. ‘But I got word back, ’ she continues in a perfect French accent, ‘that the leopard trainer says, “If you have flowing fabric around the leopard the leopard will go crazy .” So I said yes to the tux. ’
