Zac Posen is coming up on his tenth anniversary in business. His first decade as a designer has been full of highs and lows, but he's definitely on the upswing after a Spring collection that marked his return to New York fashion week after a year-long decampment in Paris. Pre-fall finds him in continued good form, making the most of his gifts as a dressmaker. On the simpler side: a white wool crepe sheath with anatomical seaming designed to diminish your waist, and a little black dress with bold shoulders that have the same slimming effect on your mid-section.

On his mood board were Lee Radziwill (now) and Jackie O. (then), along with a host of other images pointing to his current obsession with chinoiserie and the idea of creating European couture shapes out of Eastern fabrics. That meant that the collection's less simple pieces were quite ornate indeed. Among the highlights: a fits-like-a-glove olive green bustier dress with colorful floral silk embroidery, a to-the-floor stretch velvet backless column with matching shoulder-length gloves to match, and a China-red bow-front blouse worn with a ball skirt in claret (evening separates were a request from his retailers). A couple of the grander gowns would require your own footmen, but Posen made up for those potential excesses with the welcome return of a few of the bias-cut dresses he did back in the day.

OMG the gowns left me breathless. What an exquisite collection

The evening gowns are really stunning! A beautiful collection! Thank you for posting, Stereo Flo.

Someone really wants the Dior position.

 agree, the gowns are subdued Posen...they're trademark Posen, but polished, refined...appearing to aim for a vacant open position.

with that said, they are stunning pieces and he couldn't have picked a more beautiful model to wear them.

Yes, he does heavily reference Dior, but you can't help but love this, can you? The details are exquisite, and celebrities are going to be fist fighting for those gorgeous gowns.

it's actually quite nice!dramatic yet not overdone(unlike usual). Can't see how Lee and Jackie inspired this, though

OMG !!! almost all the night gowns are amazing ! i'd have a heart attack if i saw someone wearing them in real !! he's amazing , wonder why isn't he a royal-favorite till now !!

It's all coming across more Bob Mackie despite his best efforts at being more Dior. It's not an insult, I just think it's in his nature to over-design and create a cluttered and over-dramatic silhouette, even when it's obvious he want to be more refined and sleek. There's no restraint. That's his trademark, for better or for worse.

I'm sure Hollywood-types will love these designs as they're typical of the gowns the masses would expect their stars to wear at red-carpet events.

I hope he's not a serious contender for the Dior gig.

Give credit where credit is due. This is a good collection and I don't usually care for Zac Posen. Very glamourous and flattering to the wearer.

Gorgeous collection, this is Zac at his best, sexy retro glam gowns:D, love the floral print bias cut dresses and that pink strapless tulle gown is a showstopper:heart:. I can see at least half this collection on the red carpet!
